The triathlon was without a doubt one of the toughest events at this year's Commonwealth Games. In the individual competition, England's Alistair Brownlee finished in front of brother Jonny at the end of the event, which included a 1500m swim a 40km cycle ride and then a 10km run.

He won individual gold on Thursday, 24 July and then recovered enough to help his country to success in the mixed team relay final two days later. On that occasion his role included a 250m swim, a 6km cycle ride and a 1600m run.
