England's quartet - Dan Bigham, Charlie Tanfield, Ethan Vernon and Ollie Wood - record the second fastest time of qualifying with 3:50.796 to guarantee themselves a Commonwealth medal. They will take on New Zealand for the gold medal around 17:20 BST today.

The noise was electric during the entirety of England's heat, and there are still loads of empty seats!

Wales will race Australia for the bronze.

5km to go to the first medal of Birmingham 2022.

The Nigerian team put an urgent plea out to UK kit manufacturers after being let down by their usual suppliers.

The call was answered by MG Sportswear in Kidderminster, who have been working round the clock to get 200 pieces of kit ready for the 93-strong team.

Manager Gino Ruffinato initially thought the call was a "wind-up" but soon realised it was genuine.

"Everybody's embraced it, they've worked hard and done many hours to make sure it happens," he said.

The men's rugby sevens programme continues and the loudest cheer of the day so far came for a Sri Lanka team who suffered a heavy 63-5 defeat against New Zealand.

The highlight for the Coventry crowd came when Sri Lanka's Ashan Ratwatte scored a very popular try at the end of the first half.

We also had an entertaining game as Kenya defeated Uganda 27-14 in an all-Africa affair

England and Samoa are up next.

New Zealand are the team to beat so far, 4.7 seconds quicker than the Welsh.

When you are in a big group like this it is really hard to marshal the troops to cut a gap. Alex Yee needs an Alistair Brownlee alongside him to help organise this chase.

India's 50 comes up inside eight overs thanks to a cracking slog sweep over midwicket for four from Yastika Bhatia.

Speaking of cricket, England players Sophie Ecclestone, Danni Wyatt and Nat Sciver have taken on Chris Hughes and the best street cricketers in Birmingham in a warm-up match before the Commonwealth Games. Check it out!

England will be aiming for a medal and face Sri Lanka in their first match at Edgbaston tomorrow.

Today though all eyes are on the mouth-watering tie between Australia and India which starts at 11:00 BST.

New Zealand duo Hayden Wilde and Tayler Reid, along with South Africa’s Jamie Riddle, have opened up a 21-second lead on the chasing pack, featuring England's Alex Yee, after the second 5km lap of the bike leg.

At the end of the first quarter Scotland find themselves behind against a ruthless South Africa.

It's been a match of penalty corners so far with a left slip allowing Scotland to open the scoring through Charlotte Watson.

But South Africa soon turned things around with injector Lisa-Marie Deetlefts equalising with a rebound from a short corner and then adding a second with a deflection.

A pretty staggering result came out of the Sandwell Aquatics Centre a little earlier, where Northern Ireland's Daniel Wiffen has qualified for the men's 400m freestyle final with the fastest time (3:47.43).

It was certainly expected that he'll compete for a medal in the 1,500m, the 400m was more of an uncertainty but... whisper it quietly... you'd have to say he's in with a shout there, even if he'll likely need to go faster still in the final to make the podium.

The final goes just after 19:00 BST tonight, where the Loughborough-based swimmer will be going for NI's first ever Commonwealths medal in the pool.

Can Freya Anderson who finished fourth at world championships last month interrupt the Australian big three this evening?

England's Alex Yee finds himself with a bit of work to do - 15 seconds down after the swim. But this is something he is used to making up.

Just to put Harper Jean Barrowman's swim into context in the first heat. The athlete from the Cayman Islands was over 10 seconds behind Madison Wilson's time in heat two.

Mollie O'Callaghan, the world silver medallist from last month takes heat three, with Jersey's Lily Scott and Northern Ireland's Bethany Firth well off the pace.

Olympic champion Australia's Ariarne Titmus and England's Freya Anderson still to come.
