Jade Clarke takes a slip and lands with a bump but that doesn't stop her getting the pass away to goal shooter Jo Harten.

It might be that England are fired up after watching Australia inflict a heavy defeat on Scotland. They are looking almost impenetrable today.

England men's rugby sevens captain Alex Davis speaking after his side's 20-0 defeat to New Zealand which ended their chance of a quarter-final place:

"New Zealand are regularly one of the best teams in the world across all areas of rugby and we knew we were going to come up against a really tough challenge, especially after a disappointing day yesterday losing to a great Samoa side.

"We spoke about taking it game by game, sticking in the fight, trusting each other and trying to block out that external noise and trying to control what we can control.

"I am really proud of the boys' effort. New Zealand are a great side. They have only lost one game in Commonwealth history so a pretty good record.

"We dug in deep and while we obviously didn't get any points on the board in the end we gave it a good crack and you could really hear the crowd behind us, which was special to hear."

    Absolute bullet from Cardwell.

The Commonwealth Games debutant is loving life at the NEC.

She and fellow shooter Jo Harten seem to share the same brain, with quick passes between the pair bamboozling Malawi's defenders.

Eight minutes played and already 11 goals down for England.

Eleanor Cardwell is absolutely nailing this first Commonwealth start so far.

Fellow goal attack Helen Housby was a bit shaky with her accuracy yesterday but no such problems for her replacement Cardwell, who has helped England storm to a 6-4 lead in the first five minutes.

This is a much slicker start from the Roses than they had against Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

Malawi have got some good support in the NEC too, with a few flags dotted about.

But most of the love is directed towards Birmingham's own Stacey Francis-Bayman, who dives through the mid-court to grab an interception for England's first turnover of the match.

She does a sort of robotic, comedy run as she joins her team-mates on the court.

    England v Malawi (14:00 BST)

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

It was a good atmosphere at the NEC for Australia v Scotland in the netball, but it's just stepped up a notch.

The lights go down and a spotlight hits Malawi as they enter the court one by one to cheers from the crowd.

But it's absolutely nothing compared to the roar that greets England, who set themselves up in a triangle formation with captain Natalie Metcalf at the apex.

    Goosebump worthy.

WHAT a ride from Wales' Emma Finucane. She's through to the sprint semi-finals after beating Australia's Kristina Clonan over three heats. Clonan quickly closed in on her back wheel on the final lap but Finucane was just able to hold her off.

That's it for the first session of the cycling today. More action at the velodrome gets under way at 16:00 BST.

You have the two best teams [Australia and New Zealand] in the tournament playing each other so that is going to be an absolutely titanic semi-final.

As for Fiji, wonderful story for them in the last Olympic Games, coming up with a medal for the first time in their history [after beating England in the bronze-medal match], so they will really fancy their chances against Canada. Two fascinating ties there.

The 28-year-old, who also secured gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2018, scores a combined total of 285kg - a new Games record.

Gold Coast silver medalist Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea finishes in second place, with India's Gururaja Poojary taking home bronze.

    England v Malawi (14:00 BST)

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

England have handed goal attack Eleanor Cardwell a first Commonwealth Games start for this one.

She had a sensational season with club Manchester Thunder, now to see if she can deliver on the biggest stage in netball.

Helen Housby - the gold-medal-goal hero four years ago - is demoted to the bench to make way for Cardwell.

Jade Clarke comes in at centre for Laura Malcolm and Birmingham-born Stacey Francis-Bayman fills the gap at wing defence.

Five minutes to go and the NEC is bouncing with some excellent tunes.

England's Jodie Wilkinson will face Northern Ireland's Eireann Nugent in the quarter-finals of the women's light middleweight competition after comfortably seeing off Nigeria's Bolanle Shogbamu.

Wilkinson, who is only a part-time boxer, normally spends every Sunday working as a 999 call handler for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Nugent returned to boxing less than a year ago after an 11-year absence from the sport.

Defending champions England are out warming up in swanky new white dresses after playing in red yesterday.

They beat Trinidad and Tobago 74-22 in their group game opener and face the more challenging Malawi today.

England made a slow start yesterday, maybe a sign of nerves with big expectations in front of a vocal home crowd.

We'll see how they get going today in about 10 minutes' time.

    Australia 12-12 Uganda

    Ugo Monye

When you look at the pathways, the finances and infrastructure they [Australia and Uganda] are worlds apart.

Australia were down to five men at one point and Uganda tried to capitalise. They did. They got a penalty 14 metres out as the clock counted down and they opted to take a drop kick. They hit the post and unfortunately missed it but you rarely get to see a draw.

Apparently, they're absolutely loving being in England so they can watch Love Island every night. One way to keep yourself entertained in Birmingham.
