Clonan JUST crosses the line first, but she's later relegated and that race is awarded to Finucane.

They finish the first quarter a respectable 17-10 down to top seeds and three-time champions Australia.

The Diamonds beat Barbados 95-18 yesterday so this isn't bad going for Scotland.

The quarter-finals consist of a best-of-three format, and it's England's Sophie Capewell who takes the first tace against Canada's Sarah Orban by the skin of her teeth.

It's a photo finish but Capewell takes the early advantage by just 0.011 seconds.

Back to the hockey and Wales have added another with three seconds remaining in the third quarter through Gareth Griffiths.

The midfielder pounced on a loose ball, making himself room, before striking into the net at the near post.

The Welsh are flying in their Pool B opener with 15 minutes to go.

Go on Scotland! The underdogs were 11-3 down against top seeds Australia but a goal rush has got them back to 11-6.

The crowd knows how much of a challenge the Scots face here and are rewarding every piece of skill with plenty of noise, ramping it up further for each of Scotland's six goals.

Goal defence Emily Nicholl and goal shooter Bethan Goodwin have been particularly popular for some nifty efforts to keep the ball in court when it looked like it was going out.

The Uganda fans have excitedly waited at the finish as Victor Kiplangat secured their first ever men's marathon gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Either there are a lot of Scots here - there are a fair few Saltires in the crowd - or Birmingham has embraced Scotland as their second team.

The damage was done for England by an opening 34-0 loss against Samoa on Friday.

So it will be New Zealand and Samoa going through to the last eight from Pool A.

Adam Peaty speaking to BBC Sport after qualifying for the 100m breaststroke semi-finals: "I had no idea where I am at. I still don't really, I am still blowing out the cobwebs. I have only done two races this year so it is a little bit different but I felt all right.

On being asked if the foot injury that kept him out of action has healed: "I think so. It feels all right in the water. It is just literally now going through the rounds.

"I mean, you don't have to put in 100% in the heats so we will see how we improve for the semi-finals.

"It is very much a home Games for me. I grew up about 50 minutes away. It is great to see the crowd and hopefully tonight it will be even better.

"It is going to be great to see my boy in the crowd, and everyone else."
