The weightlifting is underway for the women's 71kg category - England's Sarah Davies is in action along with Scotland's Alice Glenna Aitchison and Wales' Faye Pittman.

Pitmann has just hit 81kg in the snatch part of the contest.

Sadly for Aitchison she has received a DNF after not managing to get up any of her three lifts at 82kg.

I've caught a couple of glimpses of Duncan Scott and Tom Dean waiting poolside to come in for their 100m freestyle final.

The crowd have been prepped with a couple of Mexican waves. Lights down, tunes up, spotlights on. It's time.

The fastest time to qualify for this first final of the night is 47.36 seconds from Kyle Chalmers. That's actually ridiculous isn't it?

That's four lengths of your average pool.

Northern Ireland's Caroline O'Hanlon has done A LOT of running in this game - she is everywhere.

O'Hanlon plays netball, gaelic football and she's a doctor. What a machine.

England bring Geva Mentor on for Eboni Usoro-Brown at goal keeper and Layla Guscoth is back on at goal defence. The crowd are pleased with that one.

It's a very feisty this one - Northern Ireland have had 35 penalties.

    Non-contact people.

Looking up in the stands, there is a very decent contingent of Scotland fans in and they're all congregated in the same area.

They'll be cheering on their man Duncan Scott in the 100m freestyle final.

He's up against close friend and even closer rival Tom Dean after beating the Englishman over 200m earlier in the Games.

The pair will face off one more time before the night is through - in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the end of the session.

It’s Duncan Scott v Tom Dean all over again in tonight's first race…

Scot Scott took gold in the 200 free ahead of Englishman Dean and the gloves are now off in their ongoing - albeit very friendly - rivalry.

Scott is the defending champion at this distance but Australia's Kyle Chalmers will see this as a big opportunity to make an impact, having won Olympic silver in Tokyo.

Chalmers hasn't had the most relaxed build-up though - he says his "time in the sport will be finished" if "false headlines" continue to circulate.

Ellie Cardwell makes way for Helen Housby, who is back on at goal shooter.

Adam Peaty is in action in the 50m breaststroke semi-finals later on - but says has lost a bit of "spark" and needs a "reset".

Peaty, who broke his foot in May, was fourth in Sunday's 100m breaststroke final, his first defeat over that distance since 2014.

"Something has gone missing this last two years," Peaty told BBC Sport.

"I just haven't felt the spark and I think sometimes you can get burnout from the sport that you do love."

Can the unbeatable one bounce back?

    Men's 1,000m time trial

    BBC Sport

Australia's Matt Glaetzer, who has had an eventful week to say the least, spoke to BBC Sport after winning gold in the men's 1,000m time trial earlier today.

"It has been a crazy week, that's for sure. To start off with a win, have some madness in the middle, and then top it off with gold at the end - it’s sensational. I was going to be stoked with just a medal today. It didn’t feel good, it was torture but so happy to put the performance down that I did.

[Competing after a crash] "Yeah I'm grateful I didn't break anything. My heart goes out to Joe [Truman] who messed himself up pretty bad, I feel for him. We’re good friends and it's never nice seeing your mate on the deck. I'm thankful that I was able to get back up and represent Australia really well again."

Half-time at the NEC and England lead Northern Ireland by 23 goals.

It's a decent margin so we can probably expect head coach Jess Thirlby to make a few more changes - she is clearly using this as an opportunity to see what she is working with in this squad.

Blistering pace, tremendous surf, incessant victory.

Australia have ruled the waves in Sandwell so far, make no mistake, and with another eight golds on offer this evening those in green and gold will be looking to add to an already formidable haul of 32 medals from the pool.

Plenty of home nations hopes remain on offer though on what should be another thoroughly enjoyable session.

What a shame - it wasn't to be for Guernsey's Lucy Beere in the lawn bowls.

She ran out to an early lead but some big scoring ends from Australia's Ellen Ryan were enough to secure her a 21-17 victory after 23 ends.

That is the first medal Guernsey have won at a Commonwealth Games since 1994 and the first one that is better than bronze since 1990.

England have it all to do against 2014 gold medallists Singapore in their team semi-finals contest.

Sam Walker and Liam Pitchford were beaten 3-0 in the doubles by Yong Izaac Quek and Pang Yew En Koen.

World number 17 Pitchford then suffered a second defeat, this time going down 3-1 in the singles match to Pang.

Paul Drinkhall has notched up a victory for the home nation, though. The 2018 doubles champion got the better of Clarence Chew and recorded a 3-1 win.
