Men's rings final

Could it be a double gold day for Joe Fraser? He's up in the men's rings final shortly along with England team-mate Courtney Tulloch and Scotland's Pavel Karnejenko.

What a game fans have been treated to this afternoon in sunny Birmingham.

Scotland were 2-0 down by half time but scored three goals in six minutes in the third quarter to take the lead. South Africa's Nqobile Ntuli then found an equaliser to level the match again, before Struan Walker found the net to put Scotland back in front.

In the final 15 minutes, however, goals from Matthew Guise-Brown and Taine Paton were enough to hand the South African side all three points.

England's Javier and Joaquin Bello take the first set 21-11 at the beach volleyball!

Good time for a quick rundown of the rules...

A beach volleyball match is best of three sets.

Each duo is allowed three touches to get the ball back over the net and if you win the point you get to serve on the next one.

You need 21 points to win a set and you must win by more than two points. In a deciding set, you still need to win by two but 15 is the mark to reach.

This is the Bellos’ second of three pool matches and the top two in each pool will go through to the quarter-finals.

England have made it to that stage before, but never past it.

Wales' Christie Marie Williams has just lifted 100kg on her third attempt - that leaves her third after she got 83kg up in the snatch part of the competition earlier today.

Northern Ireland's Caroline Doyle has lifted 101kg in this session, the clean and jerk, but only got 78kg in the earlier segment which puts her fifth as things stand.

England's Hayden Norris is the last of the riders from the home nations to go in this time trial.

He clocks 1:01.285 to move into third place as it stands, bumping team-mate Ethan Vernon out of the medals.

Thomas Cornish of Australia is the current leader on 1:00.036.

There's a break in play at the beach volleyball while some volunteers come on to rake the sand.

I Want to Break Free by Queen plays and two volunteers fully flash mob it, dancing around their rakes. One finishes with a flourish by going into the SPLITS and the crowd, obviously, loves it.

Strong contender for most fun sport at these Games.

By the way, England's Javier and Joaquin Bello are winning too. They're 15-8 up against Cyprus in the first set - it's best of three.

It's fair to say Zoe Smith has had a bit of a rollercoaster weightlifting career.

She went from winning gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to dislocating her shoulder twice and missing out on the Rio Olympics two years later.

She does already have three Commonwealth medals under her belt - a bronze in 2010, gold in 2014 and silver in 2018.

She's up next in the -64kg event.

The ball is played into the shooting circle towards Taine Paton but as Scotland captain Alan Forsyth tries to make the block, it bounces up off his stick and Paton knocks it over the goalkeeper to put his side ahead in this match once again.

After 13 riders, England's Ethan Vernon is still among the medal positions, in second behind Australia's sprint champion Matthew Richardson.

Northern Ireland's Caroline Doyle tops the table currently having lifted 98kg but there's still a way to go.

The announcer at the beach volleyball deserves a raise... what a hype man.

Before England's pairing of Javier and Joaquin Bello took to the court, he told fans to "get into your seats, but don't be afraid to to get out of them".

"Have you ever had a better Monday in your lives?" he asked the crowd.

The sun is shining and they're here instead of work/school, so of course the answer was no.

Even better, the Bello twins are 6-4 up in the first set.

All square again!

Moments after Scotland see a penalty corner saved by goalkeeper Gowan Jones, South Africa go up the other end and show them how it's done as Matthew Guise-Brown rifles a shot into the top corner of the Scotland goal.

England's beach volleyballers Joaquin and Javier Bello have described themselves as “the shortest team” in the past, at 6ft and 5ft 10in respectively.

Instead of height, they rely on smarts and look for “an elegant solution” as they seek to win points.

They’ve got the brains for that it seems - Javier has a politics, philosophy and economics degree from Royal Holloway and Joaquin is studying medicine at Imperial College.

Oh, and Smithfield loves them. They got a huge cheer when they stepped out onto the sand.
