Livvy Breen is always smiling but it has never been as broad as that. Commonwealth champion - and it goes to Olivia Breen.

And it happens to the best of then but sometimes there are upsets and shocks. She was hunting down Sophie Hahn.

Wales' Joel Makin has beaten English defending champion James Willstrop to reach the Commonwealth Games men's singles squash final.

Makin won his semi-final 11-5, 11-5, 11-9 and will face New Zealand's Paul Coll in Wednesday's final.

Willstrop will go up against India's Saurav Ghosal for a chance to win bronze.

And it's silver for James Guy, who punches the water and salutes the crowd, he's well happy with that! Guy and Matt Temple of Australia are actually tied for silver!

Sophie Hahn was looking good for the gold but has to settle for the silver after that brilliant run by Olivia Breen.

A couple of months ago Kate O'Connor was asked what she would take if offered either a top five finish or a PB in the Commonwealths.

She laughed for a bit, and then said neither. She wants a medal.

Her strongest heptathlon event tends to be the javelin, and with that still to come she is absolutely slap bang in the medal conversation.

Three Englishmen in the final, James Guy loudly backed as they take their marks. Away!

An Aussie one-two-three yet again and in terms of certainties in the pool you had to look at this as an odds on favourite, I couldn't see beyond them really.

England's Sophie Hahn is looking good to defend her Commonwealth Games title. The two-time Paralympic champion posted the fastest time in this morning's heats with 12.80.

Wales' Olivia Breen finished second fastest in the same heat, with England's Hetty Bartlett third.

Australia’s Rhiannon Clarke, one of the pre-Games favourites, was fastest in her heat with a time of 13.08.

So this is how it looks in the heptathlon standings after three events with Katarina Johnson-Thompson leading. Kate O'Connor of Northern Ireland is just 11 points behind.

Another legend of the pool goes for yet another medal next - South Africa’s Chad le Clos has won 18 of them down the years and is in the market for another, though James Guy of England, Joshua Liendo Edwards of Canada and Aussie pair Matt Temple and Cody Simpson won’t make it easy.

Great effort from Anna Hopkin who took it to the wall for England in pursuing the Australians. She finished fourth with team-mate Freya Anderson fifth.

Emma McKeon has a bronze medal to go in her collection with Shayna Jack second.
