Northern Ireland is a small place, athletes like Bethany Firth don't come around very often.

So much was expected of her and she did not flinch even for a second.

World champion, Paralympic champion, European champion and now Commonwealth champion.

    The circle is complete.

Wow! That was absolutely superb from Bethany Firth as she wins Northern Ireland's first Gold of these Games!

Controlled it from the off, she was ahead of World Record pace at 100m and cruises through to win in style.

    Squash - women's singles

What an astonishing performance from Gina Kennedy. She beats Hollie Naughton 4-1.

She wins the gold medal on her Commonwealth Games debut to cap a meteoric rise in the sport.

She's stunned at what she's achieved, but grabs an England flag and runs a lap of the arena.

Reigning champion Akani Simbine of South Africa is the only competing World Championship 100m finalist from last month and it shows in the first of three semi-finals.

After a slightly sluggish start he pulls clear to win with ease as Australia's Rohan Browning makes a late charge to take second.

With only the top two going through automatically England's Ojie Edoburun faces an anxious wait to see if he'll be among the best of the rest.

Ruby Storm may be one of the best names at these Games, and the Australian will of course be a threat to Bethany Firth. Great support for the swimmers as they line up.

One final chance for a Home Nations medal on the judo mat at Birmingham 2022.

Can Scotland's Andrew McWatt add a bronze to cap a metal-magic night?

McWatt is only here as a late replacement for 2014 gold medallist Chris Sherrington, who suffered an ACL injury.

But the 21-year-old from Aberdeenshire has certainly taken his chance and goes up against the much-heavier Sébastien Perrinne of Mauritius.

It could be a golden moment for Northern Ireland next as Bethany Firth’s time coming into this race is by far the best. The 26-year-old has won Paralympic Gold representing both Ireland and Great Britain in the past and will be looking for another medal to take home tonight.

She is planning a six-week honeymoon around Asia later this year and had her dog Russie at the wedding just a few weeks ago. Superb.

Tom Dean has six silver medals in these Games now. Both utterly brilliant and utterly frustrating, I'm sure!

A second gold of the meet - and 12 in total now - for Scotland's most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete. What a man.

    Women's singles final

    Katie Falkingham

Well, well, well. This just got interesting.

England's Gina Kennedy looked to be cantering towards the gold medal, but not so fast, says Canada's/Barnsley's Hollie Naughton. After opening up a big lead, Kennedy claws back six points in a row to draw level at 10-10.

But Naughton shows great strength of character to win the third game 14-12 and send this final into a fourth game.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson continues her quest for Commonwealth Games gold in the women's heptathlon when she goes in the javelin in a few moments.

KJT has been the star turn in the competition so far and leads overall with 4,718 points with her English team-mate Jade O'Dowda in second on 4,596 and Australia's Taneille Crase in third on 4,525.

And with a pose like in the second image I could see Hollywood producers getting in touch for a new Marvel superheroes movie.
