Aussie singer Vanessa Amorosi rounds off the set and we must put dreams of being Down under on hold.

Understand she's not going to be the last musical performance tonight...

(That's the only teaser you're getting, but we're assured it's worth hanging about for...)

The Victoria Tourist Board has been hard at work, I see.

A promo video of the state's best bits - Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road, Philip Island - is shown on the big screen to whet the appetite.

Some duplicate Jason Donovan croons his way over it. Not convinced he's playing that guitar he's holding.

Nevertheless, I still want to go. Two mins while I check out a flight comparison website...

Abinash Das: One of the best Commonwealth performances by Team India (sans shooting sports that could have resulted in another 10+ medals for the contingent). Birmingham 2022 will be remembered as the rise of the fearless athletics contingent of Team India that proved the naysayers wrong with solid performances.

Time for a show which illustrates the cultural background and heritage of Victoria.

For more than 60,000 years, Australia’s First Peoples’ have held a deep connection to land, waters and community.

As host of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the performance shows how Victoria will place this extraordinary culture at the heart of the event.

During the handover ceremony, 18 contemporary dancers perform against a video backdrop that displays Australian athletes and the breadth and depth of everything regional Victoria has to offer.

The Commonwealth Games flag is folded up as neatly as your tablecloth after dinner and formally given to athletes from Team Australia.

They pass the cloth - not the Dutchie - to Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau.

As late replacements go, feels like Birmingham has been the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of super-subs.

An inspired choice coming up with a last-minute winner.

Spiralling costs, and nose-diving confidence in meeting them, meant original hosts Durban gave up the Games five years ago.

Birmingham picked up the baton and, after tonight's glitzy closing ceremony, will pass it on to the Australian state of Victoria.

    Drum roll please...

It's Singapore's table tennis player Feng Tianwei!

The noise is ramped up again as the crowd applaud when she is presented with the silver vase. That'll look great on the mantelpiece.

Feng became Singapore's most decorated athlete at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a total haul of 13 medals.

Three of those were gold medals in Birmingham, where she helped Singapore complete a clean sweep in the women's team, singles and doubles events.

Now it is the turn of Dame Louise Martin, president of the Commonwealth Games Federation, to pay tribute to the achievements of the athletes over the past 11 days.

She also announces the winner of the David Dixon Award, given to the outstanding athlete of the Games.

    Any guesses?

Tribute is paid to the local government leaders who provided the funding and drive to bring the Commonwealth Games to Birmingham by John Crabtree.

"The decision to bring these games to the West Midlands was a bold one but you saw the potential of the Games and backed us to deliver," he says.

"We have the infrastructure to deliver something really special. Everyone in our region must benefit from this bold decision."

These Games came at a pivotal moment for the Commonwealth Games.

There have been years of debate about how hard it is to attract host cities and a real challenge for new place for where this Games can go.

Organisers tell us the success of Birmingham has already led to expressions of interest.

There were almost 1,900 medals and no shortage of memorable performances.

Yes, there is always the question about whether it represents the very best in sport, some of the world's finest athletes are missing.

But it is hard to escape many have enjoyed the Games.

It may be in the years to come that the Commonwealth Games has a lot to thank Birmingham about.

    Change of pace.

The sound system bangers are paused and John Crabtree OBE, chair of the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee Board, steps up to the mic.

"To do justice to everyone who made it possible, we'd be here all night," he says.

"Thanks to the gift of the Games, we hope we haven't let you down."

Cue cheers. The decibel level goes further north when he pays tribute to the 14,000 volunteers.

    Thank you all!

    Birmingham Bull saved from scrap-heap

The undoubted star of the opening ceremony wasn't an athlete or a singer. It was a giant mechanical bull.

    How could you forget?

The 10m sculpture is set to stay in the city after winning a reprieve from Birmingham City Council.

The bull - does it have name? - has been on display in Centenary Square after charging onto the scene last week, although its future has been less clear.

Largely made of foam, it was due to be dismantled at the end of the Games, sparking public outcry.

But has confirmed the bull has won a reprieve.

It will stay in the square until the end of September before being moved indoors.

This segment of the is titled 'Youth' and aims to promote the young people in the Birmingham who have their own stories to tell.

R&B, soul and hip-hop acts Mahalia, Jaykae and Ash are the soundtrack to this generation.

"Honest, raw, energetic, powerful and a performance to inspire," is what we're told to expect.

I can confirm it is the case.

One for the 80s glam fans.

Duran Duran wowed so much at the opening ceremony that one of my colleagues was inspired to dye his hair bleach blond the following day. Now that's legacy.

Simon le Bon and the lads aren't in the stadium tonight but their tunes provide the backdrop as the show celebrates the impact and importance of the legendary Broad St music venue Rum Runner.

Bit before my time, but told it opened on Broad Street in 1964 and inspired 80s music and fashion globally.

As night falls we enter the club, where people could express themselves freely, surrounded by faceted mirror walls.

The club developed a reputation as a late-night place for bands to hang out and was inspired by the legendary Studio 54 in New York at the height of the 1970s disco era.
