  1. Double medallist McColgan to bring in Scotland flagpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

Eilish McColgan will carry the Scotland flag at tonight's closing ceremony at Alexander Stadium, where she won two Commonwealth Games medals.

McColgan won the 10,000m on Wednesday in a Games record amid emotional scenes, as she emulated the achievement of mother Liz in 1986 and 1990.

The 31-year-old then added 5000m silver on Sunday.

"Representing Scotland is such a moment of pride," McColgan said. "We are a close-knit team - I have been running and competing with so many of the team since I was 12.

"But not just the athletes; the medics, coaches and staff. That's what makes it special, so to lead them out at the closing ceremony will be a moment I will never forget."

Newly-crowned bantamweight Commonwealth champion Dylan Eagleson will carry Northern Ireland's flag at the Games' closing ceremony at Alexander Stadium.

The 19-year-old from Bangor, County Down, was one of five Northern Irish boxers to claim gold yesterday at the NEC.

Eagleson's win was arguably the most stirring of all given he was down on four judges scorecards after the opening round against Ghana's Abraham Mensah.

He's got a bit of character about him too, dancing around the ring and trying to get under the skin of his opponents on the way to gold while displaying a slick and elusive style that required maturity well beyond his years.

Another moment to remember for him coming up tonight.

Absolute pandemonium in Birmingham city centre as the BBC's Tim Warwood tries to do a live broadcast from Victoria Square.

Not quite Sky Sports News on Deadline Day, but still one moment from chaos.

    Great to see.

Inside the Alexander Stadium, the Mexican Wave is already going.

It has its knockers, but if you're not grinning when you're pushing your hands into the air then you're not human.

Sunglasses will be hiding tired eyes all over Birmingham Airport tomorrow.

Imagine the party which the athletes are going to throw tonight...

And it will get started in the Alexander Stadium as we take a musical tour through the West Midlands and its history.

Without giving the game away, pretty much every Brummie artist you can think of will be performing tonight.

Apart from, it seems, The Streets. Which I'm sure you, like me are very sad about.

    Dry your eyes, mate.

Sally Brooks: I've lived in Birmingham for 15 years, which is the longest I've lived anywhere as an adult. The feeling across the city in these last two weeks has been awesome. It's not just hype, it's real.

Daniel Walsh: The Commonwealth Games allowed the world to see Birmingham how anyone who has lived there sees it, a positive city with loads to offer. What an incredible games, from the weather, crowds and especially the seamless inclusion of para sport.

  10. 'Hard not to see these Games as a success'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 8 August 2022

    Dan Roan
    BBC sports editor in Birmingham

When you consider that Birmingham had effectively half the time most host cities enjoy to prepare for a Games - after they stepped in to replace Durban - and when you consider the pandemic and the challenges of that, it is hard not to see this as a success.

After all, one and a half million tickets have been sold. That's a record for a Commonwealth Games on British soil.

When it comes to legacy, this was the most expensive event England has hosted since the 2012 Olympics - £800m so far. The truth is it is too early to tell.

To what extent it improves the lives of local communities, how it strengthens the ties with the Commonwealth at a time of renewed focus of the countries that make up the Commonwealth.

There is already talk of Birmingham hosting the European Athletics Championship, perhaps, the World Championships, maybe an Olympics one day.

There is not doubt, perhaps at this stage, the biggest defining legacy of the games, is the extent to which the city embraced the opportunity to play host.

So, here we are. Time to wave goodbye to the Games and time for some reflection on the past fortnight in Birmingham.

Let's keep this simple... tell us what you enjoyed the most about the Games and why.

That can be one of the many stunning sporting performances, a particular interview which got the emotions flowing or a personal anecdote which you will remember for years to come.

You know the drill, tweet your thoughts using #bbccwg.

Looking forward to hearing what you think... :)

There will music before the lights go out in Birmingham's Alexander Stadium (and when the Commonwealth flame is doused), signifying the end of the 2022 Games. Sigh.

Some will still have reservations about the Games, bearing in mind its links to Britain's colonial past and doubts over the legacy it will create.

But for many others there have been highs and lows, thrills and spills, golden moments which they will remember forever.

Now, with the closing ceremony about to start, it is time to reflect on what we've seen over the past 11 days...
