    Men’s welterweight semi-finals

Little between Scotland's Tyler Jolly and Wales' Ioan Croft in the opening round.

Jolly is aiming to move a step closer to becoming Scotland’s first Youth and senior Commonwealth Games gold medallist, having won the junior version in the Bahamas in 2017.

So far, so good. He edges the opening round on the scorecards, with three of the five ruling in his favour.

The second is also as tight as the jeans of landfill indie frontman.

Everything on the line in the last.

    Women's 800m

    BBC Sport

England's Keely Hodgkinson on winning silver: "Frustrated is definitely the right word. I am not quite sure what happened, it went so quick.

"The first lap I went a bit hard, maybe I could have been a bit more patient, but I came here for gold and gave it my all.

"Unfortunately I came away with a silver...again. But I have got one more chance.

"I will go back to the drawing board and try again. There are positives but I want gold so I am fuming. I wanted to stand on top of that podium in front of my home crowd."

Look at that - a hodge-podge all the way through. Even the crowd knew the syncro was off.

    Canada are out of it.

Well, well, well. Canada's Caeli McKay and Celina Toth, currently in second, make a hash of their final dive and can only score 53.76.

That really opens the door for the English pair.

    Men's 5,000m final

The races just keep coming - here's the men's 5,000m.

Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo is aiming to do the 5,000-10,000m double in Birmingham, having triumphed in the longer distance earlier this week.

Also on the start line are Kenya's Jacob Krop, who took silver in the world championships a few weeks ago, and England's Marc Scott.

Scott made the headlines last year when he became the first Briton to beat Mo Farah across 10,000m and claim the British title.

He has since gone on to win his first major medal thanks to world indoor bronze in the 3,000m in March.

    Men’s welterweight semi-finals

Noticed Big Arnie Schwarzenegger and Little Danny DeVito were on the box this afternoon.

The cinephiles among you will know those two teamed up for 80s comedy classic Twins.

Apt really (or perhaps tenuous) as the Commonwealth Games has today had its own version in Birmingham.

Welsh twins Garan and Iaon Croft are identical but, like the Benedict brothers, are of different weights (in the boxing sense).

Garan lost earlier in the light-middleweight to Northern Ireland's Aiden Walsh and now the slightly-lighter Iaon faces Scotland's Tyler Jolly.

Hold the phone - we may get another diving medal after all.

Robyn Birch and Emily Martin move into the bronze medal position with a score of 70.08, just three points clear of Andrea Spendolini-Siriex and Eden Cheng.

Melissa Wu and Charli Petrov of Australia sit in the gold medal position with one dive to go, but Canada's Caeli McKay and Celina Toth are just four points behind in second.

    Women's singles class 3-5

Wow, that was over pretty quickly for two-time Commonwealth champion Sue Bailey.

    She fell to defeat to India's Sonalben Patel - 5-11 2-11 3-11 - a dominant performance.

This is Bailey's third Commonwealth Games after winning gold in 2002 and 2006, but her classification has not been included since that 2006 Games in Melbourne.

    Very unlucky for the 49-year-old.

Oshoba faces Northern Ireland's Walsh tomorrow.

I like this from Birch and Martin - and a great fourth round dive.

Same dive from Cheng and Spendolini-Sirieix.

It's like for like with the English pairs - probably about the same total score. Andrea's execution was really good but Eden's a little bit heavy.

    It's definitely tightening up.

Scotland's Laura Muir speaking to BBC Sport about her battling bronze in the women's 800m: "My coach told me to go out hard and I thought I did but I was still miles off it. Oh my goodness, these girls are fast.

"I was in fourth with 100 metres to go and I was just like 'no way'.

"Kids, that's why if you coach says run all the way to the line, you run all the way to the line.

"This time last year I got an Olympic silver and now I have a Commonwealth medal."

Coppell among names bidding for goldpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's pole vault final

The men's pole vault final has just got under way on a bumper evening of athletics action.

England's Harry Coppell finished seventh on his senior major championship debut at the Tokyo Olympics last year - but that's not the full story.

Coppell had some emergency dental surgery in Japan after smashing one tooth and dislodging another when the bar fell on his face during practice. Ouch.

The 26-year-old has clearned 5.75m this season - the best of any of the athletes competing today - on his way to a third national outdoor title.

He faces some stiff competition, including compatriot Adam Hague and Owen Heard, who leads the way in these early stages.

We need something special if there is to be another home medal in the diving pool after a shaky third dive by both English pairs.

Robyn Birch and Emily Martin can only score 57.60, while Andrea Spendolini-Siriex and Eden Cheng score 56.70.

It means they sit fifth and sixth on the leaderboard respectively, with Australis' Melissa Wu and Charli Petrov still in front.

    Semi-finals: Australia 40-2 v New Zealand 144-7

Australia are just having a teensy wobble over at Edgbaston.

They've lost Alyssa Healy and captain Meg Lanning cheaply, but Beth Mooney and Talia McGrath are in good form for the tournament favourites.

Early stages, still, but New Zealand will be quietly pleased with this start - although they've dropped a couple of sitters in the process...

    Men's doubles quarter-final

Scotland's Rory Stewart and Greg Lobban took a while to wrestle control of their squash men's doubles semi-final against Australia's Zac Alexander and Ryan Cuskelly.

But as soon as they did, the Scots showed no mercy, rattling off nine unanswered points to win the opening game 11-2.

They need one more game in this best-of-three encounter to reach Sunday's semi-final.

In between matches at the hockey it's a bit like being on a log flume.

Sit in the front seats and you'll get sprayed by the sprinklers that are on the pitch wetting it for the next game.

Incidentally, that game is the men's semi-final between England and Australia and it starts at 20:15 BST.
