    England 4-5 Australia

We're back underway in quarter one.

Head coach Jess Thirlby has opted for experience, experience and more experience with this side. All but one of the starting seven were part of the squad that won gold four years ago in Australia.

We're already seeing the combination of Helen Housby and Jo Harten - fondly known as H2 - connecting under the post.

I have seen the like before but never on this stage, Layla Guscoth unwraps herself from around the post and now they have to go to the bench while the whole post has to be replaced.

Love the smile on her face though - she knows what she has done!

Layla Guscoth flies into the air to make an interception in the circle and lands straight into the post, one leg either side. She laughs it off with her team-mates.

The post is now leaning slightly from the impact and we're going to have a short break while they swap the post.

We're still seeing Jo Harten with heavy strapping on her leg - whether that will affect her mobility, we shall see.

Have the NEC Arena crowd gone too loud too soon?

I don't see how they can possibly raise the volume any higher than this. What are they going to do when it's all still to play for in the final quarter?

How fitting that Martin McHugh, Northern Ireland's 2022 joint-flagbearer and winner of gold in the men's fours at Kuala Lumpur 1998 delivers the winning bowl in the 14th end.

Northern Ireland take an unassailable 18-5 lead over India and have won gold.

Their second of these Commonwealth Games. Magnificent.

I'd argue netball is one of the best atmospheres at these Games.

It's sort of half sports event, half Harry Styles gig with flashing lights, top tunes and VERY enthusiastic fans.

The air is drenched in anticipation for this one and the crowd is entirely red and white. I can even see a Helen Housby flag with a picture of her 2018 gold-medal celebration up in the stands.

When England stepped out for their warm-up you'd think they were cheering Housby scoring a Commonwealth-winning goal again from the volume.

'It was down to mental fatigue rather than pressure'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

Scotland's world champion Jake Wightman had to settle for bronze in the men's 1500m final.

Here's what he had to say when he spoke to BBC Scotland:

"Initially I was pretty disappointed because I wanted to win. But in hindsight if I told myself at this point I'd have a world gold and Commonwealth bronze two weeks later, I'd take that.

"Mentally it was hard to get back up for this. I gave it a go to win it, but I didn't have it. Just relieved to get something for Scotland because one of us deserved to be on the podium and I'm lucky to be the one to be on it.

"It wasn't even the pressure it was just the mental fatigue of having had such a high, to come back up and get on it soon again after. I could have easily bombed that and not done even anything. For me I've done something so good this season, everything else is a bonus.

"It's been a good season. I think the finish disappointment will fade away because I'm glad I managed to come back, step up and get a medal."

Jamaica are certainly bringing the performances on court this tournament but also off it.

The Sunshine Girls are in their first ever Commonwealth Games final, having played in five bronze medal matches.

    Talk about always the bridesmaid.

This year they will have at least a silver medal round their necks, imagine the moves they'll bring to the final. Who will be joining them?

    So. Nearly. There.

Northern Ireland's men's fours can see the gold medals coming bigger into focus as they take a huge 17-5 lead with just two ends still to play.

If they were to win the next end it's game over. Surely, surely they're about to claim Team NI's second gold of the Commonwealth Games?

Can England set up netball final against Jamaica?published at 14:18 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    England v Australia (14:30 BST)

    Becky Grey
BBC Sport at the NEC Arena

Jamaica have already sealed their place in Sunday's netball final after beating New Zealand 67-51 earlier today.

If England make it through with victory against Australia, these three say it's a win-win.

Ebony, Olivia and Kay are Jamaican heritage and Birmingham locals and Kay (on the right) says she'll be supporting whoever wins in a Jamaica v England final, joking that she'll have a half-and-half outfit on.

They were Jamaica all the way this morning and Olivia (in the middle) is thinking about taking up netball after seeing her side's comfortable win. That's what it's all about.

England's hammer gold medallist Nick Miller spoke to BBC Sport after successfully defending his title:

"It didn't really go all to plan but I'm Commonwealth champion again and we're just going to remember that bit - the rest was just gone!

"The crowd today is incredible and definitely a win in there. I was like 'wow this is a lot of energy' and I wasn't ready for that but Commonwealth champion, so over the moon.

"After the third round, I was like 'are you really going to be an idiot today? Are you really going to do it like this?' and then look up and see the support from everybody, took a corner and ended up winning."

"Joe Ellis did incredibly well today and Craig Murch, top eight, he just had Covid. really proud of the English guys and definitely moving in the right direction."
