    Women's triples gold medal match

England are having a good look at the state of play and after Sian Honnor strides back to take her place, the 34-year-old picks up a single for the host nation.

The gold medal match is 5-5 after six ends.

    Men’s quarter-final

An ace from Joaquin Bello and a block from Javier gives England set point.

And they put the Gambia in a dangerous position from their serve with duo Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra conceding the deciding point with a catch-ball.

    Advantage England in this quarter-final.

    Men's fours semi-finals

England know they will not have it all their own way in their last-four encounter against India, who picked up a single in the opening two ends.

But lead Louis Ridout scores two in the third end for England to make it honours even at 2-2.

Northern Ireland have also fought back from 2-0 down against Wales in the other semi-final, and now lead 3-2 after three ends.

After a bounce-back from Gambian pair Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra, England duo Javier and Joaquin Bello have pushed on again, going into a 18-15 lead in the opening set.

"Come on, you!" is the phrase of choice of the Northern Ireland men's four when trying to coax the bowl to its desired destination.

The bowl, being unable to actually hear, doesn't always listen but of course the players know this - who can blame them for being right in the zone in the Commonwealth Games semi-final?

A very tight game so far on rink nine, with Northern Ireland nudging themselves into a 3-2 lead against Wales after three ends.

There is some support for Gambia but the crowd is overwhelmingly here to support England.

When the players are introduced, they throw a gift to the crowd. Gambia opted for tee-shirts whereas England picked mini volleyballs.

One of the Bello twins’ throw didn’t make it to the crowd and is instead perched on a canopy.

Thankfully, his arm action has been better in the match and England have started the better.

So far so good for England twins Javier and Joaquin Bello, they've raced into a 9-5 lead in their quarter-final with Gambian duo Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra.

Remember, in beach volleyball it's best-of-three sets with 21 points needed to win a set.

Beginning of end four and England skip Sian Honnor gives a little 'sorry' nod to her team-mates, as the 34-year-old knows that attempt was slightly on the heavy-side.

Natalie Chestney, who was a child prodigy and represented England at Under-25 level at the age of just 14, receives high fives instead for her effort.

    Men’s quarter-final

Javier and Joaquin Bello’s defeat in their final pool match to New Zealand’s Sam O’Dea & Brad Fuller means they have, on paper, a slightly trickier quarter-final against dangerous Gambian duo Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra, who won African Games gold in 2019.

But try telling that to Javier Bello who starts with three aces in a row as England go 4-0 up. Wow!

England are represented by Jamie-Lea Winch, Natalie Chestney and Sian Honnor.

The trio may be stacked with Commonwealth medals, boasting eight between them, but only one of them was won in 2018, meaning they arrive in Birmingham full of motivation.

The host nation have certainly started with a spring in their step and after end two Malaysia are on the back foot and 4-0 down.

The identical twins are taking on Gambia for a place in the semi-final.

Gambia won’t be pushovers as Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra won African Games gold in 2019.

But there are high hopes for Joaquin and Javier Bello who said they are here to win a medal.
