England disqualified from women's 4x400m relay

We've just seen the footage from the women's 4x400m relay.

And... yep, the English pair do step outside their lane. That disqualification will stand.

  2. Gold medal - Australia netball

    Jamaica 51-55 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

Jamaica continue to fight until they end, but it's not to be this time.

Australia claim a fourth Commonwealth netball gold and run into a huddle in the centre of the court to celebrate.

What an effort from the Jamaicans, who were playing in their first Commonwealth final and have definitely won the love of this crowd.

  3. Australia on track for netball gold

    Jamaica 49-55 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

Australia's substitutes are hugging on the sidelines.

Ninety more seconds and they'll be Commonwealth netball champions... again.

  4. Post update

    England disqualified from 4x400m relay

Well, it looks like the appeal hasn't gone England's way...

  5. Australia take first volleyball set

Women's gold medal match: Canada 0-1 Australia

    Katie Falkingham

    BBC Sport at Smithfield

Blimey, that was a very tight first set. Australia take it 24-22 and are one set away from avenging that defeat on home soil (sand) four years ago.

We've got dancers and bubble machines entertaining us while the players take a breather. The crowd are on their feet, bopping along, and it's needed - it's a bit chilly!

  6. 'There will be a counter protest from England, I am sure'

    Women's 4x400m relay

    Clare Balding

    Presenter on BBC TV

We think that the infringement was from Victoria Ohuruogu, who may have run out of her lane on the first leg, but there will be a counter protest from England, I am sure. The medal ceremony was supposed to have happened already, but has obviously not yet taken place.

  7. Post update

England disqualified from women's 4x400m relay

There'll be appeals and counter-appeals before the whereabouts of the gold medal is decided...

  8. Australia six minutes from gold

    Jamaica 45-49 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

I think the NEC might be louder than it was for England's semi-final.

Jamaica win a turnover to cut Australia's lead to three and people are up pumping their fists in the air.

Jamaica's centre falls to the ground, though, and Australia get that goal right back.

There are only six minutes left in this final, an Australian gold is looking pretty likely.

  9. England disqualified from 4x400m, but appeal in

    Mike Henson

    BBC Sport at Alexander Stadium

    Hold those horses.

Lots of the crowd have headed for the buses on a high, thinking they have seen the most dramatic England gold of the Games as Jessie Knight held off Canada in the 4x400m relay by a thousandth of a second.

But the news has just dropped that England have been disqualified for a lane infringement. The changeover in question was Jodie Williams taking the baton from Victoria Ohuruogu.

The video replay is just being shown on the big screen.

It doesn't look great for England. But they have lodged an appeal.

Twenty minutes or so for a final verdict.

Scotland would move up into bronze medal position if England are crossed off the results list.

  10. England DQ'd after women's 4x400m relay gold

    Women's 4x400m relay

    Clare Balding

    Presenter on BBC TV

We understand at this point that England have been disqualified from the women's 4x400m relay for a possible infringement on the first leg. It means that Scotland, at the moment, have been promoted to the bronze-medal position.

    Women's 4x400m relay

A bit (more) relay drama to bring you...

  12. Post update

Women's gold medal match: Canada v Australia

    Katie Falkingham

    BBC Sport at Smithfield

Someone in the crowd at the beach volleyball just shouted at the Australian pair "go on, do it for Neighbours".

Sounds like they're missing Karl Kennedy and co already.

  13. 'I'm a very proud president'

    Denise Lewis

Olympic heptathlon gold medallist on BBC TV

This place has come alive. Birmingham is absolutely and firmly on the map - the Commonwealth map. I am a very proud president [of Commonwealth Games England]. Long may we have more championships here [at the Alexander Stadium].

  14. Fourth quarter begins

    Jamaica 39-45 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

    Here we go.

Fifteen minutes for Australia to seal a fourth Commonwealth title - or for Jamaica to claim their first.

Six goals in it and Jamaica have an early turnover.

  15. Jamaica reduce Australia's advantage

    Jamaica 39-45 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

The NEC feels more like a gladiator arena now.

Players are flying all over the floor as the netball becomes less and less a non-contact sport and the crowd react to each fall with boos and hisses.

Jamaica's Jhaniele Fowler lands a last-second goal to reduce Australia's lead to six going into the final quarter. It's going to be a big final 15.

  16. Aussies edge ahead at beach volleyball

Women's gold medal match: Canada v Australia

    Katie Falkingham

    BBC Sport at Smithfield

Halfway through the opening set and Australia have a very narrow lead.

Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar were Olympic silver medallists in Tokyo last year and beat this Canadian pair - Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan - enroute to the final.

Clancy is the first indigenous player to represent Australia in beach volleyball.

  17. Australia keep netball lead

    Jamaica 36-44 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

The majority of this crowd is not happy with Australia winning.

They decide there's been footwork - a player moving with the ball - and a shout of "How many steps?!" comes from behind me before boos ring around the arena.

Australia are eight in front in the third quarter.

  18. 'No more perfect way to finish'

    Women's 4x400m relay

    Michael Johnson

Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

I thought Jessie Knight was running a little bit conservatively, but it paid off in the end because she needed it coming home.

She did a great job holding off the Canadian athlete, hanging in there and knew she had to time her lean and she timed it perfectly.

That was the win - timing that lean absolutely perfectly. There was no more perfect way for this home team to end these Games.

  19. Post update

There's just one more day left to go before Birmingham 2022 closes its doors.

  20. Australia nine goals up

    Jamaica 31-40 Australia

    Becky Grey

    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

The onslaught continues at the netball.

Australia tighten their grip on the gold medal as they move nine goals ahead.

That is a big deficit to make up with less than 25 minutes of play left.
