Andrew: That was a superb drive from Lando Norris today. He led from start-to-finish in tricky, changeable conditions, navigating multiple restarts and having an answer to all questions posed. Dare we call that a Championship drive?

    Christian: What a race…. WHAT. A. RACE

Jeremiah: What a great drive by Norris! What a regrettable race for Ferrari.

That was the early wake up call. Kimi Antonelli finished fourth on the road, overtaking the Williams of Alex Albon late on, but the Mercedes driver was handed a five-second time penalty for an unsafe release, so he drops back down to fifth. What a result for Albon.

Oscar Piastri made a move around the outside of Lewis Hamilton and takes ninth place, leaving the seven-time world champion to end his first Ferrari outing in 10th spot. Charles Leclerc was eighth.

Nico Hulkenberg was seventh, the Sauber man finishing higher than both Suderia drivers.

This is going to be a fight to the line. Lando Norris was also told he has the pace in that McLaren, so trust in the car. The Red Bull is inching closing, but the Briton stays ahead in Melbourne. The fans have been treated to a classic here at Albert Park...

When you get given these chaotic races the opportunity for those further down the midfield towards the back is massive.

Lando Norris hold a seven-tenth gap over Max Verstappen but the Dutchman has DRS. The McLaren is told to just hold position - don't push the car too hard. Norris is staying calm and holding off the attack from the four-time world champion.

Pierre Gasly has dropped down the order after the trip over the wet grass, with Oscar Piastri spotting a chance to pass and lift himself up into the points to 10th.

A twitch by Pierre Gasly swings the door open for Charles Leclerc to go through and swipe eighth place away. It's a double overtake on Gasly, as Lewis Hamilton also passes the Frenchman to move up to ninth. Oscar Piastri then tries his luck but is denied.

I'm so surprised why Oscar Piastri didn't take the risk under the safety car given that he's all the way at the back now, stick some slicks on and towards the end maybe start to make serious progress.

Oscar Piastri won't be claiming a podium at his home race - unless something even more dramatic happens. The Australian is out of the points at the moments but he's running in 11th place and has Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari in his sights. Charles Leclerc is trying to put pressure on his best mate Pierre gasly but the Alpine driver holds firm.

Lando Norris has done a good job once again, that McLaren is looking very good in all conditions.

    And we go again!

Lando Norris is leading, but Max Verstappen is right on his tail. The Mercedes of George Russell is now in the mix too and is he hustling the Red Bull just in front. What a result for Alex Albon and Williams if he can stay in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Ferrari are racing each other on the restart and it's Charles Leclerc who comes off better, passing Lewis Hamilton to take ninth place away from the seven-time world champion.

I think it's absolutely brilliant and what a way to start the 2025 campaign.

Lance Stroll, Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton make up the rest of the top 10. Ferrari rolled the dice but you can never rely on mother nature. Lewis Hamilton tells his engineer: "I thought you said it wasn’t going to rain much?" Then adds: "Just missed a big opportunity there."

We think it's possibly going to dry out before the end of this race, it is still not done and this is maybe not the final tyres and conditions that we will see for the remaining 10 laps.
