McLaren's Oscar Piastri took his third win of the year and with it the world championship lead at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Piastri benefited from a penalty for Red Bull's Max Verstappen to take control of the race and score his second win in a week.

Verstappen was given a five-second penalty for illegally keeping the lead from Piastri by going off the track at the first corner but had more than enough pace to keep second place.

McLaren's Lando Norris recovered from 10th place on the grid after his crash in qualifying to finish fourth behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen spoke to Sky Sports on his five-second penalty: "To be honest I think any words towards that is just a waste of time for everyone."

Comparing to the incident between Lando Norris at Turn 12 in Austin last year: "We talked about it a lot and last year and this year are a different kind of rules, so that's also a problem.

"This is not my problem to be honest, I think the positive is we had decent pace in the race, I was much happier on the medium [tyre] as well.

"I did not expect the pace in the car but it did show that the changes we've made in the car from Friday to Saturday definitely helped a lot on the tyre wear as well."

On the rules changing from last year to this year: "Let's get the paperwork, it's all written down. It's not in my interest [to appeal], the only thing that is in my interest is looking forward to going home."

  4. Where is F1 going to next?published at 20:20 British Summer Time 20 April

We say hello to the United States for the first time this season when F1 touches down at the Miami Grand Prix from 2-4 May.

Max Verstappen has reached the TV pen and when asked by Sky Sports to discuss his five-second penalty, he responds: "Any words towards that is just a waste of time for everyone."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner adds Verstappen would've won the race today if he hadn't have been penalised.

  5. 'I make life tough for myself' - Norrispublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 20 April

McLaren's Lando Norris finished in fourth after starting 10th, and he told Sky Sports: "I think it's the best we could have done today, it's a shame we didn't stand on the podium. We were close and it's always hard to judge those things, Charles [Leclerc] drove a good race and a good first stint.

"I'm pleased on the whole but I make life tough for myself, especially when it's a race like that. It would have been much easier and a lot more chill just to drive at the front. I've got to help myself out a little bit and have better Saturdays."

On the pace of the Ferraris and the Red Bulls: "I don't know why people are so surprised, they're just as quick in qualifying sessions, they're just as quick as us in the race.

"I think Max [Verstappen] was the quickest out there today if he didn't have that five-second penalty, so we have work to do."

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finishes third, he said: "It’s the way it is for now, unfortunately in qualifying we don’t manage to extract more out of the car.

"I was extremely happy with the lap yesterday and I was very happy with the race today, I think we maximised absolutely everything.

"I’m very proud of what we’ve done but now we just need to improve the car to be fighting a bit further.

"I never expected to finish here and I thought this race was about defending the cars behind, especially Kimi [Antonelli] so it was really good."

On the next step for Ferrari: "We need to keep pushing to the maximum and hopefully upgrades are coming soon in order to improve the car."

  11. 'Definitely one of the toughest races I've had in my career' - Piastripublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 20 April

    Oscar PiastriImage source, Getty Images

Oscar Piastri wins his third race of the season in the McLaren, he said: "I’m looking for a couch, it was a pretty tough race. I’m very happy to have obviously won, I made the difference at the start and made my case in to Turn One and that was enough.

"It was really tricky to follow out there, I couldn’t really stay with Max Verstappen at the end of the first stint and I just chewed up my tyres. The clean air was nice after the pit stop, it was a clean race and we did the parts we needed to right.

"We still needed a bit more, Max [Verstappen] was a bit too close for our liking but a great race and a great weekend."

On the start: "Once I got on the inside I wasn’t coming out of Turn One in second. I tried my best and obviously the stewards had to get involved, but I thought I was far enough and in the end that's what got me the race.

"I'm very happy with all the work we've been doing on the starts and that's what won us the race for us today."

On the physicality of this race: "That was one of our biggest upgrades this week, the drinks working.

"It’s always a tough race around here, it’s a little bit later into the year so I think it's a little bit warmer and a little bit humid, definitely one of the toughest races I've had in my career so I'm happy I could come out on top in it."
