  1. WI 49-2 (Gayle 20, Samuels 8)published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Ireland's fielding is looking sharp - George Dockrell makes a great stop in the covers to deny Gayle a single off Kevin O'Brien. West Indies continuing to move along at a pretty sedate pace here.

Michael in Manchester: Even though I understand why, Eoin Morgan and Boyd Rankin really should be playing in this game. They would have a great chance of winning if they were playing.

  3. WI 48-2published at 22:54 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Andy McBrine has made an excellent start here, and he coughs up just two singles from another tight over.

  4. WI 46-2 (Gayle 18, Samuels 7)published at 22:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Samuels finds the rope for the first time as he waits on a slower ball from Kevin O'Brien and pumps it down to long-off.

Rob Boddice:, external Wonder if David Shepherd even umpired in Nelson. Must have been a nightmare for him.

  6. WI 41-2published at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Oohs and aahs as Andy McBrine scoots one straight through Marlon Samuels' defences and the ball just whistles past off stump. Pain for wicket-keeper Gary Wilson, who's not wearing a helmet, as Chris Gayle bottom-edges one into the ground and it bounces up and hits him on the cheekbone. Doesn't even flinch. These Irish lads are made of stern stuff.

  8. WI 40-2 (Gayle 18, Samuels 1)published at 22:43 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Marlon Samuels has been a shining light in a pretty gloomy period for West Indies - he's averaging 62 in ODIs since the start of 2014. He's off the mark with a punch into the covers.

  9. WI 39-2published at 22:40 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Marlon Samuels is the new man. The consolation for the West Indies is that dangerman Chris Gayle is still at the crease, and he serves notice of his destructive capabilities with two muscular fours through cover off McBrine.

SportsGar:, external I like the guy, but how has Dwayne Smith made 100 ODIs and opening the innings, with a batting average under 19!

West Indies are renewing their acquaintance with the big red button marked 'Self Destruct' here. Darren Bravo hasn't even faced a ball and he's already back in the hutch. Gayle gets a leading edge to point, sets off, Bravo is caught on his heels and Andy McBrine throws down the timbers. Dear oh dear.

Oh Dwayne. This is an absolutely hideous way to get out. Kevin O'Brien is called into the attack to send down some gentle medium-pacers, and he strikes with his third ball when Smith closes the face on an attempted lofted drive and picks out John Mooney at mid-on.

  13. WI 29-0published at 22:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

A first change for Ireland and it's the young spinner Andy McBrine, whose heart must be hammering as he prepares to send down some tweak to the menacing figure of Chris Gayle. Gayle shows the offie plenty of respect though, playing out six dots. Great start from McBrine.

  14. WI 29-0 (Smith 18, Gayle 10)published at 22:26 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Dwayne Smith is starting to move through the gears here. He latches on to a slightly short ball from Sorensen and lofts it back over the bowler's head for four. A tidy start for the West Indies.

  16. WI 21-0published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Dwayne Smith clips the first ball of Mooney's over down to cow corner and it runs away for four on an outfield that looks as smooth as a billiard table. Smith doesn't need any help from the outfield with his next stroke, reaching across to club a wide one from Mooney through point for another boundary.

  17. WI 12-0 (Smith 2, Gayle 9)published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

It's been a watchful start from Chris Gayle so far, but he signals his intent with a lofted blow over deep extra-cover for the first boundary of the innings.

Dwayne Smith plays the first stroke of any real conviction with a meaty bludgeon down the ground, but it's well fielded by Ed Joyce. Terrific riposte from Mooney though as he whistles one past Gayle's groping outside edge. Three off the over.
