  1. Afg 102-5 (target 268)published at 09:56 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Mahmudullah continues from the Swimming Pool End. If you don't believe that's what it's actually called, Stephan Shemilt posted a picture of the very pool earlier. Looks inviting on a warm Australian summer day like this. Afghanistan reach 100 as Nabi plays a delicate sweep fine for three runs.

Mirwais Searak: I know every team would want to win, but for us Afghans taking part is probably half the win. Let's not forget these guys have no proper pitch and I am definitely not going to mention under what circumstances they play. Regardless of how things pan out, I am one proud Afghan feeling prouder today.

Soumya Sarkar's medium-pacers prove difficult to get away once more as just the one run is added for Afghanistan.

  5. Afg 95-5 (Nabi 11, Najibullah 9)published at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Mohammad Nabi shows his strength on the off side with a square drive for four off Mahmudullah's final ball of an otherwise tight over. Just enough to keep Afghanistan interested.

Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"This is tough going for Afghanistan. Bangladesh were not too far off this score at this point, but even though Afghanistan have a powerplay, with five wickets down it will be a tough ask. But they have to learn to bat in these situations, by rotating the strike and knowing when to take on the field."

  7. Afg 89-5 (need 179 more to win off 132 balls)published at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Sabbir Rahman is on to bowl for Bangladesh now with his leg breaks - the seventh different bowler used. More tough going for Afghanistan against the slower stuff as the required rate moves above eight-an-over.

  8. Afg 85-5 (target 268)published at 09:42 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Back in Australia's capital, Najibullah opens his account with a nice sweep shot off Mahmudullah for a four behind square.

  10. Afg 78-5 (target 268)published at 09:39 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Left-hander Najibullah Zadran is the new man in number seven for Afghanistan. It looks a huge task for them now.

"Samiullah Shenwari did everything he could with a perfectly executed dive. He was running the bat in and he was absolutely horizontal to the ground but he was still two feet short. He is obviously disgusted to be called through for a second run he obviously did not want."

  12. WICKETpublished at 09:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Here comes the replay and it's not good news for Samiullah as he tries desperately to make his ground coming back for two. But he's short. Shabbir was the man with the throw in from the deep square leg boundary and Mushfiqur whips off the bails on the bounce.

Thank you Mark, it's good to see Afghanistan staying in the contest here. Samiullah shows some intent by whipping a half-volley over the infield on the leg side for four off Taksin. But, a couple of balls later there's an appeal for a run out as they try to take a quick two. We're going upstairs for a look.

  14. Afg 73-4 (target 268)published at 09:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Bangladesh were 101-2 at the halfway point of their innings (but were soon to lose a couple of wickets) - Afghanistan will be a little short of that mark, but make no mistake, they're still in this game. And to describe either their World Cup debut win, or a debut defeat... here's Adam Williams.

"Cricket today is being played on very flat pitches. In one-day cricket, you don't want short matches. That's not good for television advertising revenues, and so most one-day cricket is played on shirt-fronts."

  16. Afg 69-4 (Samiullah 35, Nabi 2)published at 09:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

A sub-plot for Bangladesh - with Rubel off the field with a knee injury, he must be some sort of a doubt over whether he can bowl again, having only bowled four of his 10 overs, so Bangladesh may need to dip into their part-timers. For now, they turn back to teenage seamer Taskin Ahmed. Nabi, who favours the pull shot, helps himself to a couple of singles.

  18. Afg 65-4 (target 268)published at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2015

Captain Mohammad Nabi is the new batsman, replacing former skipper Nawroz. A large group of the Bangladesh fans may think the game is already won, they're doing a conga around the stands.

"There was nothing wrong with Nawroz Mangal's shot selection. He was slog-sweeping with the spin. The fielder Rubel Hossain seems to have injured himself taking the catch. He was running in and then had to change angles. I think it was when he changed angles that he hurt his knee."

But the wicket has come at a cost for Bangladesh, as Rubel has injured his knee taking that catch. He's treated by the Tigers physio on the outfield, and when he's helped to his feet, he can only limp off the field.
