AB Villiers celebrates Younus Khan outImage source, Reuters

Not for the first time today, a Pakistan batsman gives his wicket away when well set. AB de Villiers holds his nerve likes a master poker player, Younus twists, and then turns towards the dressing room after chipping a simple catch to the cover fielder.

  2. Pak 129-2 (run-rate: 4.96)published at 02:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Pakistan will be well chuffed with this - they are getting stuck into South Africa's slower bowlers and it's amounting to a decent total. There's no need to play big shots against Morkel and Steyn with such a strategy. Again, another Morkel over costs just three.

  3. Pak 126-2 (Younus 35, Misbah 15)published at 02:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

It's difficult to pick fault with AB de Villiers, but he does have a dodgy barnet. It's thinning, receding and a little wild. Still he almost picks up a wicket with his canny bowling when a leg-side full ball is chipped just over the head of a jumping backward square leg by Misbah. The ball goes for four, as does a half-tracker which completes the over.

  4. Pak 115-2 (Morkel 5-0-11-0)published at 02:34 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

South Africa are still searching for wickets and have two slips in place, one a little wider than the other. Pakistan are not looking to attack Morne Morkel, they are just dealing in ones and twos against the tall, rangy quick. We're into the milking season - also known as over 20-30.

  5. Pak 111-2 (Younus 28, Misbah 8)published at 02:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Imran Tahir runs in from very wide of the crease before delivery. He races through a maiden over. South Africa are keen to keep a good over rate today.

"Misbah-ul-Haq is the first player to score 5,000 ODI runs without a century."

  7. Pak 111-2 (Younus 28, Misbah 8)published at 02:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Misbah has brought up 5,000 ODI runs in this innings, at an average of 43 and a strike-rate of 74. Where would Pakistan be without him? Misbah had a chat with our very own Stephan Shemilt this week. Go and have a gander.

Morne Morkel is recalled to the bowling attack and bowls a much shorter length than Dale Steyn, banging the ball in and testing the batsmen outside off stump. Just one from the over.

  8. Pak 110-2 (run-rate: 5.23)published at 02:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

It's good to see a leg-spinner doing well in the tournament. Imran Tahir is wicketless today though and is easily knocked into the gaps. Three more accumulated.

I'm fairly certain the South African players were eating sweets during that drinks break. Hashim Amla was in charge of doling out the pick and mix.

Dale Steyn, who I imagine is a fizzy cola bottle type of man, continues to charge in with the wind blowing his trendy haircut all over the place. Just three from the over.

"South Africa have lost control so the captain brings Steyn back expecting them to regain control, but confidence is up for the batsmen now and momentum is with them. It's amazing how things go for you when you have that - all of a sudden the nicks go for four."

  12. Pak 104-2 (Duminy 3-0-34-0)published at 02:14 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Misbah and Younus have a combined age of 77. They've seen it all before, and are likely to see it all again... 40-year-old Misbah at least. He shows no signs of slowing down.

JP Duminy offers welcome respite from the pace of Dale Steyn and the batsmen knock the ball into gaps as they look to build a platform for Boom Boom and the boys lower down the order. A cut down to third man brings the boundary which takes Pakistan past their team 100. Drinks.

  13. Pak 95-2 (Younus 20, Misbah 2)published at 02:10 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

Top captaincy from AB, who brings back Dale Steyn as he senses a critical moment in the match. The paceman only sent down three overs in a hostile opening spell. Pakistan are not put off by the previous wicket as they twice take quick singles. The final ball of the over whistles past the outside edge and is taken at chin height by the keeper.

    Geoffrey Boycott

"I don't rate South Africa's fourth bowler, Imran Tahir. He bowls too many hittable balls and you can't control the game. You can't stop people scoring but he bowls too much loose stuff so he has to take wickets."

    Stephan Shemilt

"I may have been a little cruel to Eden Park, but, in fairness, it does have the ability to generate a good din. The ground is barely half-full, but already the noise is cranking up. A collective 'ooohhh' as Dale Steyn took that amazing catch, pandemonium as Sarfraz was clearing the boundary, a stunned gasp as the same man was run out."

  16. Pak 93-2 (Tahir 4-0-24-0)published at 02:05 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

So, Pakistan are back to relying on Misbah and Younus. South Africa back in the game.

"He's mortified but it was just stupidity. He was out by two yards. It was great fielding to pick the ball up on the run but it didn't need Jonty Rhodes or Clive Lloyd, just good fielding and what an idiot because he was going well."

Sarfraz Ahmed out by Quinton de KockImage source, Getty Images

What was he thinking? Sarfraz had put Pakistan in total control with 21 from the last over, but perishes in unforgiveable fashion when he is run out going for the second which would bring up his 50. A great throw from David Miller at square leg and Quinton de Kock does the rest. Crazy running.

  19. Pak 90-1 (Sarfraz 48, Younus 18)published at 02:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2015

JP Duminy is of the shades-while-bowling-spin variety of bowler. He is not getting much grip and turn and Sarfraz Ahmed hammers him for two successive sixes into the leg side, bringing up the 50 partnership in 43 balls. The powerful right-hander repeats the trick later in the over with another maximum, this time over mid-wicket. A massive 21 from the over.
