"That was a magnificent knock from Aaron Finch. In the end, it looked like he didn't want that run. He just looked so tired. And has that wicket knocked 30 runs off the total which Australia might end up getting?"

Finally a breakthrough for England and it was the only way you sensed it would happen. Finch crashes the ball to the offside, Eoin Morgan dives and stops and on his feet, takes aim at the non-striker's end and hits the stumps. Finch is short by a few yards and on his way.

  3. Aus 210-3 (Finch 133, Bailey 47)published at 06:07 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Bit of carnage from Aaron Finch in that over from Moeen, which goes for 16.

"Aaron Finch could do all sorts of damage to England here. Moeen Ali is feeling the heat and you don't realise how hard Finch hits the ball until you see it live. He ruthlessly puts the ball away."

  5. Aus 206-3published at 06:06 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Aaron Finch tucks in to Moeen Ali's bowling here. Down on one leg and he slop sweeps him in to the first 10 rows.

"I like the zing bails, they are an Aussie concept. They are fantastic... you can instantly see when somebody has been bowled because they light up."

  7. Aus 194-3 (Finch 117, Bailey 47)published at 06:04 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Jimmy Anderson is back on for the last over of the powerplay and George Bailey almost offers up a catch with a mistimed pull shot. Gary Ballance and Stuart Broad go after it, but it falls between them. Anderson looks less than pleased with that effort from his team-mates. The crowd now giving England a bit of "the bird" as they sense the hosts are well on top. They negotiate the powerplay by scoring 33-0.

"I like the look of Chris Woakes, he's improved and is learning all the time. There is plenty to like about him."

  9. Aus 188-3 (Finch 115, Bailey 43)published at 06:00 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

So all over in New Zealand and a great start for the Black Caps, but back at "The G" as the locals say and Chris Woakes gets lofted for four over mid-off by George Bailey. So far, these two have marshalled Australia neatly through the powerplay.

  10. New Zealand win World Cup openerpublished at 05:54 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

It's all over in Christchurch. Skipper Angelo Mathews made 46 but when he fell at 216-8, Sri Lanka's last hopes disappeared with him. Veteran spinner Daniel Vettori was the pick of the bowlers with a tidy 2-34 from his 10 overs.

  11. Aus 179-3 (Broad 8-0-45-2)published at 05:52 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Great bit of fielding from England captain Eoin Morgan at mid-off as he dives full length to prevent another crunching Aaron Finch off drive crashing to the boundary. More changes in the bowling as Broad comes back in after just the one over from Finn. Morgan clearly trying to shuffle his pack in a bid to break this partnership. Time for a drink and a chance perhaps for him to rally his troops.

"Overheard in the TMS box, a conversation between two BBC reporters, whose identity I shall protect, for obvious reasons..."

'There's been a streaker in Christchurch.'

'Really? How marvellous. We haven't had a streaker in ages.'

  13. Aus 176-3 (Finch 112, Bailey 34)published at 05:48 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Finch and Bailey also passed the 100 partnership mark in that previous over. Little seems to be troubling these two at the moment and a clever dab in to the legside by Finch picks up a quick two. England need a lift here, Chris Woakes has come back on. A fairly steady over from the right-armer.

    Stephan Shemilt

"A penny for the thoughts of Chris Woakes as Aaron Finch flicked the four that brought him a century. At long-on, Woakes was pretty much motionless, just about summoning the effort to clap his hands together. Finch, by the way, scored 70 of his 102 runs on the leg side."

  15. Aus 172-3 (Finch 109, Bailey 33)published at 05:43 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Finch picks up four more in that Steven Finn over with a crunching off-drive with the fielders up in the circle. He's looking well set for a big score here unless England can force a change in momentum.

"Well played indeed. Australia needed this innings from Aaron Finch - they were teetering in the middle overs. He was dropped on nought but sometimes you need a slice of luck to get going. He has kept the run rate going even when the wickets were falling."

First ball of the powerplay is guided for four down to fine leg from Aaron Finch and there it is....a well-deserved century from the Australia opener. Remember, though - he was dropped without scoring in the opening over by Chris Woakes at square leg.

  19. Powerplaypublished at 05:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Interesting move from Australia who take the batting powerplay earlier than is mandatory and it's Steven Finn back in to the attack for England.
