  1. Aus 161-3 (Finch 98, Bailey 33)published at 05:38 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Finch adds a couple more to his tally as he closes in on the magic three figures. He's still going at around a run a ball. More economical stuff from Moeen with just three from the over. This partnership is also closing in on 100 and is now worth 90.

"I think the one-day game is too slanted in favour of the batsmen. They have made it too difficult for bowlers. I'd possibly allow two bowlers to bowl more than 10 overs. Batsmen don't have to retire at 50, do they?"

  3. Aus 158-3 (Finch 96, Bailey 32)published at 05:35 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Steady stuff from Stuart Broad as these two take a few overs just to sit in. Batting powerplay time isn't far away remember, so they may be keeping one eye on that. Just two runs off the over and some much needed control for England.

"We've seen it all summer in Australia with the tri-series... whether it's with the bat or ball, England don't seem able to finish off the job."

  5. Aus 156-3 (Finch 96, Bailey 31)published at 05:32 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Moeen continues and Bailey and Finch are just nicely ticking along here. Finch now just four away from a century at pretty much a run a ball. England desperately need a breakthrough.

Adam Davies: England need to be clever here. Need to halt this revival with a few wickets. Attack may be best form of defence or carnage soon.

  7. Aus 152-3 (Broad 6-0-41-2)published at 05:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Stuart Broad is back in the attack after he did the business with two wickets in two balls earlier. That Joe Root experiment didn't last long then. Stephan makes a good point about that MCG roof. It's not always been like that as a few years ago, it was just the Southern Stand end that had it until they expanded the capacity to a whopping 100,000. Now, it truly is an amphitheatre. George Bailey pulls a four away to the legside as Broad drops one in a touch too short.

  8. Aus 146-3 (Finch 93, Bailey 24)published at 05:24 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Thanks Marc, you get the sense this is following a familiar pattern for England. Two batsman are well set here and looking dangerous and more than capable of getting Australia well beyond 300. Moeen is in his fourth over now, a tidy one with just six from it.

"It's getting louder, even though I suspect there's still a few fans to come in. If you're not familiar with the MCG, although it's massive, it is effectively one big stand that circles the playing area. Because it has a roof on, the noise stays inside the vast bowl. In the scorching Victoria sunshine, the heat - and noise - are being turned up on England."

  10. Aus 140-3 (Finch 88, Bailey 23)published at 05:21 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

England look to try and sneak a couple of overs from Joe Root through, but Aaron Finch is wise to the plan and smashes his first ball for four, then cracks six over mid-on. I suspect Moeen might be targeted too, with the Aussies knowing there is not much back-up with Ravi Bopara not being selected today.

It's time for a change for us too. Here's Adam Williams.

  11. Aus 126-3 (Moeen 3-0-15-0)published at 05:19 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Moeen Ali races through a quick over of off spin, conceding just four singles as the batsmen look to milk the ball into the gaps. Of which there are plenty on this outfield.

"The good thing for George Bailey here is he's getting a few runs. If he can go on and get past 50, it's a huge bonus for Australia. We've seen with England that if the captain doesn't make runs and isn't worth his place on ability and performance, it takes away from the team ethos."

  13. Aus 125-3 (Finch 75, Bailey 21)published at 05:16 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Aaron Finch is going at a run-a-ball, and he raises a roar from the home supporters with a lofted six off James Anderson over extra cover. It feels like the momentum is being wrested back, with this partnership now worth 54.

  15. Aus 117-3 (Moeen 2-0-11-0)published at 05:12 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

George Bailey is like a cat on a hot tin roof as he tries to get his side motoring again. He gets four down the leg side before almost chipping a catch to midwicket off Moeen Ali. Another boundary backward of square follows.

A bit of county cricket news has broken in the early hours this morning and Yorkshire have secured the signing of veteran Pakistan batsman Younus Khan for the opening weeks of the season.

The 37-year-old will be returning to Headingley having previously played for the White Rose in 2007.

He will join up with the county champions after the World Cup and stay on until Aaron Finch has finished his commitments in the IPL.

  17. Aus 107-3 (run-rate: 5.09)published at 05:09 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

The scorers are playing dot to dot at the moment, with the Aussies almost grinding to a standstill. The pressure shows as Aaron Finch dances down the wicket to James Anderson and lifts his back leg before clipping two round the corner. The handbrake remains on.

  19. Aus 105-3 (Finch 61, Bailey 15)published at 05:05 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

England have got the noose around Australia's neck at the moment. The run-rate has dried up and Moeen Ali's introduction to the attack begins with a leg-before shout. It's going to be hard to get one of those today though because the bounce is so high on this road of a pitch. Just one from a tidy opening gambit.

    Scorecard

  20. Aus 104-3 (Anderson 5-0-30-0)published at 05:02 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

James Anderson, who was steady enough in his first spell, returns as England try and break up this promising Australian partnership. George Bailey plays and misses outside off stump and the Burnley Express grimaces. A potential maiden over is spoilt when Bailey pushes two through the off side from the final ball.
