"This is definitely hitting the stumps."
Holder has pinned Chris Jordan in front, Billy Bowden has raised his crooked finger for lbw. Is it out, or is it drifting down leg? Let's see...
So once again we're going to be treated to the rather dispiriting sight of Jos Buttler trying to marshal the tail, like a former Brain of Britain patiently trying to herd a team of eight-year-olds through a pub quiz. For the moment Buttler is content to take the safety-first approach, and he plays out a maiden off the increasingly impressive Permaul.
James Gutteridge: Why has Stokes gone after that? Days to bat, runs coming easily... Absolutely daft.
Daniel Roberts: If only Stokes could use his brain as much as he appears to use his mouth.....
Chris Jordan, a man who has held some breathtaking catches in this series but has yet to capture the imagination with bat or ball, enters the fray. Jason Holder - who as we never tire of reminding you went to school with Jordan in Barbados - welcomes his old classmate to the crease with a vicious bouncer that gets Jordan ducking. Jordan is off the mark with a rather ungainly top edge that just about lands safe behind square.

"Stokes stood in the middle of the wicket and couldn't believe what he'd done. He played for a bit of spin but there wasn't any and a good low catch by Chanderpaul."
Just as Ben Stokes was beginning to look ominous, his sparky innings is extinguished. He thrashes Permaul through the covers off the back foot for four, but then tries to force him through the same area off the front foot and chips a catch that is well held low down by the 40-year-old Shiv Chanderpaul.

"I said first thing this morning I'd like to be in the West Indies camp - I'd now like to jump ship."
Thank you Jamie. I've just finished enjoying a ginger nut, in an unwitting tribute to Ben Stokes, who is playing a really impressive hand here. Holder continues after drinks. Stokes adds a single with a firm push that is very well stopped by a diving Shiv Chanderpaul at extra cover.

Super stuff from Stokes. The reverse sweep works well again and four more for the combative left-hander, who is now the top-scorer in this peculiar England innings. The golf buggy arrives with the drinks, there is much for the West Indies to ponder, and to see what the think-tank comes up with, here's James Gheerbrant.
Chris Gunn: England haven't really had a crazy collapse. We could get a 200 lead and they aren't chasing it down on this pitch.
Holder it is who replaces Taylor from the Joel Garner End, what they would give to have the Big Bird steaming in now. Accuracy from Holder in the early 80s-mph but Stokes is timing it nicely.
Tino Best
West Indies fast bowler on BBC Test Match Special
"I like Ben Stokes. He backs himself all the time. This is one of those games where you have to put your hand up and be a hero."
Permaul has a slip, a short-leg and a leg gully in place Stokes, but there is no man for the reverse sweep, neatly executed for another four. Some purposeful running between England's two young guns brings them a brace of threes and the lead is over 150 now.
Christian Evans: England need a 300-350 lead to have any chance of winning this. Buttler and Stokes, time to make yourselves heroes!
Buttler and Stokes both seeing the ball nicely now, two more to the attacking wicketkeeper with a clip off his pads. Taylor is around the mid-80's mph now. Are they going to turn to big Gabriel?
Jeffrey Wiltshire: Stokes and Buttler are either going to launch a momentous counter attack or we are going to be 70-8.
Amos Kemp: If England could bat through to lunch without losing any more wickets, it would be a miracle.
Ed Smith

"Jos Buttler is someone who could take this match away from West Indies. He's batting positively but selectively."
