    Lanning lbw b Cross 6 (Aus 35-3)

Big wicket! England turn to Kate Cross, her fourth delivery seams in to Lanning's pads and traps the Aussie captain in front. A dream start for England as the Southern Stars skipper slopes off with her side in trouble.

  3. Aus 35-2 (Lanning 6*, Perry 4*)published at 11 overs

Brunt begins her sixth over, but her new-ball partner lets her down as Shrubsole lets one through her legs for four. Thankfully, when Lanning guides the ball down to third man again, Shrubsole gets the long barrier out to restrict them to a single.

It's so good that they're playing here at Taunton, which has been a great supporter of women's cricket through the years. I came here yesterday and they even have a picture of Sarah Taylor appealing on the barriers at the railway station.

  5. Aus 30-2 (Shrubsole 5-0-17-0)published at 10 overs

Two new batters in for Australia - so it's not just at the Old Pavilion end that rebuilding work is having to be done in Taunton. Lanning knocks a single, while the powerful Perry guides a four back past the bowler.

It's taken Australia a little too long, in my view, for them to get Ellyse Perry up the order. I think she's averaging over 150 in her last eight ODIs, and that included a duck.

  7. Aus 25-2 (Brunt 5-2-13-2)published at 9 overs

Ellyse Perry, very much a genuine all-rounder, is up at number four, promoted ahead of the experienced Alex Blackwell who was at four on the card, and she plays out the over. Back-to-back maidens for Brunt... now, how long does Edwards keep her going?

  8. wicket

    Jonassen b Brunt 5 (Aus 25-2)

Jonassen digs out one yorker from Brunt but the left-hander pays for a rather ugly cross-batted heave across the line as Brunt shatters her stumps. Two wickets for the Barnsley quick who has removed both openers.

I'm surprised that lbw decision against Villani in the first over wasn't given. I was in line and I can't think it was missing anything.

  11. Aus 25-1 (Jonassen 5*, Lanning 0*)published at 8 overs

Jonassen nudges Shrubsole for a single, there's a short mid-wicket in a catching position for Lanning - who averages 45.65 from 37 ODIs - but the Aussie skipper is content to play out the rest of the over.

Katherine's been plagued by injury, I think she feels she's got a lot of making up to do - I think that's what drives her on.

  13. Aus 24-1 (Brunt 4-1-13-1)published at 7 overs

Captain Meg Lanning is in at first drop for Australia, she's had a stellar couple of years with the bat, and despite a slight misfield by Rebecca Grundy at wide mid-on, Brunt is able to complete a wicket maiden.

    Villani c Edwards b Brunt 18 (Aus 24-1)

Villani tries to flick Brunt off her legs, captain Charlotte Edwards only has to move one step to her right at square leg and takes the catch. A rather tame dismissal but Brunt, who wears her heart on her sleeve at all times on the cricket field, is absolutely delighted.

  15. Aus 24-0 (Villani 18*, Jonassen 4*)published at 6 overs

Jess Jonassen, who hails from Emerald in Queensland, is finally off the mark just over 20 minutes into her innings - in her defence, she's not had much of the strike - as she works Shrubsole for four off her legs.

I'm sure Alex Wharf has never heard that one before. Today is a good day to umpire.

  17. Aus 20-0published at 5 overs

Brunt tries a bouncer which Villani hooks for four and it just evades Kate Cross down at fine leg. A two means the right-hander has 18 of Australia's first 20 runs.

Georgia Elwiss works really hard at her game, she missed the whole of the international season last year with a back problem, she's come back well this year and probably deserves her spot. But it's hard on Jenny Gunn.

  19. Aus 14-0 (Villani 12*, Jonassen 0*)published at 4 overs

Another wide from Shrubsole, Villani slashes a four over the slips before clipping a single off her legs off the last ball of the over, once more. I'm not sure Villani has often been compared to Gordon Greenidge - but like the great West Indian, she certainly knows how to count to six. Jonassen, yet to score, has only faced six balls so far.

Charlotte Edwards isn't the most mobile in the field, but she often hits the stumps.
