  1. Aus 8-0published at 3 overs

Brunt keeps it tight - Isa Guha on TMS doesn't think she's getting much away-swing here - but Villani reaches foe a couple of cut shots, and poor old Shrubsole is kept busy at third man, scampering around the boundary and diving around with vigour to restrict Villani to a two and a single.

  2. Aus 5-0published at 2 overs

Local favourite Anya Shrubsole, who was born in Bath and plies her trade for Somerset in women's county cricket, will share the new ball so it's right-arm pace from both ends. Australia have a right-hand/left-hand opening combo as the left-handed Jess Jonassen takes guard. A wide is the only blemish on Shrubsole's over.

  4. Aus 4-0published at 1 over

It's fire from Yorkshire at Taunton as Katherine Brunt, the tall right-arm seamer from Barnsley, begins proceedings, with two slips in place. Elyse Villani pushes the fourth ball of the day through the covers for four, that was slightly overpitched but the outfield looks pretty quick at this early stage. Brunt yells an lbw appeal to the next delivery, it hit Villani on the knee-roll and may have been a little high. And there's an even bigger appeal off the last delivery as Brunt slants he ball into the right-hander, but once more Mr Wharf is unmoved.

Elyse Villani and Jess Jonassen - who we remember as primarily a spin bowler, but is very much an all-rounder these days - are opening up for Australia, with Katherine Brunt marking out her run-up at the River End. Let's play.

Umpires are out - it's ex-Lancashire all-rounder Steve O'Shaughnessy, and former Glamorgan seamer Alex Wharf who was fourth umpire at the men's Test at Lord's. Apparently that finished early...

England link arms - the players on the pitch, the backroom staff in the dug-out - for a rousing rendition of "God Save The Queen". Charlotte Edwards then leads her team down the Australian line for pre-match handshakes.

Anthem time. It's "Advance Australia Fair" first, with a large smattering of applause at the end.

A healthy crowd continues to filter into Taunton as the sun breaks through the clouds every so often. Coverage in today’s local and regional papers has been impressive and Somerset are expecting close to 3,000 fans, having sold 1,400 tickets and given free admittance to members. The England and Australia players enter the field through a guard of honour of U15, U17 and U19 Somerset girls' players and we are set to go.

Being a Devonian, I'm pretty excited that the first two ODIs will be played at two of the grounds where I probably developed most as a cricketer when I was growing up. It appears I'm not the only one who's looking forward to playing in the South West as Sarah Taylor has been practising her West Country accent at training every single week since April!

Let's not forget, there are ICC Women's Championship points up for grabs here too. Australia are currently top of the table, England are only sixth. I think this is the right points balance with the multi-format Ashes, and having the Test in the middle is better - before, if you won the Test early doors, it was a huge advantage.

Those of you who know Taunton may know there's been some building work going on since the end of last season, with the venerable Old Pavilion coming down - TMS are broadcasting from the newly-being-constructed media centre. We're just under 10 minutes from the start.

We needed that 12-14 month period for it to embed. This is the series where we will really be able to see if there's been an impact. Australia are also fully professional so we are seeing the two most-funded teams play in this series.

We should have a brilliant game; it should be absolutely fantastic. England have dominated over the last few years. By reducing the number of points available for winning the Test from six to four points, it's really going to put pressure on who is the best team in T20 or ODI format.

  19. Australia team newspublished at 10:10

As anticipated, Nicole Bolton's concussion yesterday has ruled her out, so her opening berth goes to all-rounder Jess Jonassen, with namesake Jess Cameron coming into the middle order.

  20. England team newspublished at 10:07

As Charlotte indicated, England go with the three quicks, supported by seamers Georgia Elwiss and Natalie Sciver, and spinner Rebecca Grundy. There's no place for Jenny Gunn, Laura Marsh or Lauren Winfield - while reserve keeper Amy Jones, as she has often done, plays as a specialist batter.
