"It doesn't matter what the pitch is doing, you cannot afford to bowl it on a length like that. If Pakistan want to get over the 120 mark that is exactly what the likes of Malik need to do."

  2. 6 runs

    Pak 75-3published at 13.4 overs

That’s the first big one! Shoaib Malik picks Hardik Pandya’a slower ball, heaving over cow corner for a sixer. Pakistan need a few more of those.

Whether you're happy to see the ball turn this much or not, or if you think it's nice to see surface favoring the bowlers for once, surely, for a match of this scale, we should be talking about the cricket and not the strip of grass it is played on?

  6. Pak 67-3published at 13 overs

Fans are still queuing outside? Surely they'd be better off finding a telly? Ashish Nehra returns as a raucous Mexican Wave goes around Eden Gardens. Whether pace or spin, Pakistan's batsmen are having so many problems laying bat on ball. Meanwhile, the whole cricketing world is having a say on this pitch...

  8. Pak 60-3published at 12 overs

Now, this is the bit of luck Pakistan need. A single, the throw comes in, hits the stumps and ricochets off for four overthrows. Five in total. They have a look upstairs, but new man Shoaib Malik is well home. Home fans stunned into silence. Imagine what they'd be like if India lose...

"Big wicket. The crowd are going crazy. Afridi tried to get his hands through it but couldn't manage. It was an easy catch."

    Afridi c Kohli b Pandya 8 (Pak 60-3)

Gone! Boom Boom can’t do the bizo, holing out to long-on off Hardik Pandya. What can Pakistan do to get up to a decent score here? No one can lay bat on the spinners and the seamers keep nipping in with wickets.

  12. Pak 59-2published at 11.2 overs

Hardik Pandya is back, fit enough to bowl. He might wish he was still off the field, as Umar pulls for four.

Mark Greaves: Not much use having a slip in. It's turning so much the batsmen can't get within a foot of an outside edge!

  14. Pak 54-2 (Jadeja 3-0-12-0)published at 11 overs

More spin, the ball turning so much it almost comes back to Ravi Jadeja. Pretty much everything that lands on a decent length is ripping past the bat. I've never seen a T20 like it - even finding a single is a huge effort. The crowd senses it too. Less roaring, more engrossed study.

"If Pakistan get near the 136 mark, I think it will be tasty on this pitch. It won't be easy to bat on."

  16. Pak 51-2published at 10 overs

Not quite Boom Boom. Maybe just Boo. A top-edged hook brings four for Afridi, who is then totally foxed by a Bumrah slower ball. Umar Akmal is the new man, by the way.

"You could see he was trying to get the pace going. Shehzad was trying to get some momentum into the innings but he wasn't able to. What Bumrah does well is with that awkward high arm he is quite metronomical and hits the ground hard."

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.2 overs

    Shehzad c Jadeja b Bumrah 25 (Pak 46-2)

Gone this time! Ahmed Shehzad is looking to get after a rare over of pace and perishes doing so. He slices Jasprit Bumrah into the off side, with Ravi Jadeja running back to take the catch at point. What’s a good score here? 100 might be enough….

  19. Pak 46-1published at 9.1 overs

Very, very good from Shehzad, taking advantage of the extra pace to ramp Bumrah over long leg for four.

"Pakistan need to find a way to get a wriggle on. Admittedly it is not easy. They need to find a way to pierce this field. With Bumrah coming on, this is the best chance because the spinners are too difficult."
