  • Virat Kohli 89* from 47 balls for India

  1. WI 97-2 (Charles 46, Simmons 35)published at 11 overs

Lovely from Simmons, scorching Jadeja through the covers for four. Goodness me, that's a hometown decision - huge height no-ball off the last delivery but the umpire doesn't give it. Would have been an extra run and a free hit. Could be crucial in about an hour's time...

"Now the Indian side might very well worry, the maximums are coming."

  3. WI 90-2published at 10.1 overs

Oh, hello, Simmons has got hold of that - rocking onto the back foot and bludgeoning Jadeja for six over midwicket. India are under a bit of pressure...

  4. WI 84-2 (target 193)published at 10 overs

Just two off the last three balls, a gutsy finish to the over from Pandya, but make no mistake, West Indies are in this. Johnson Charles was 19 off 16. He's now 45 off 28.

"Wow, one of the shots of the day from Charles. He got into a great position and just swivelled with the ball."

  6. 6 runs

    WI 82-2published at 9.3 overs

Johnson Charles is playing a good hand here - he uppercuts Pandya over short third man and that's a maximum. The next ball gets some treatment as well - swivel-pulled for four.

  7. WI 72-2published at 9 overs

More tap from Charles, hoicking powerfully to cow corner and beating Manish Pandey on the rope. That brings up the 50 partnership off 33 balls - that's the kind of rate that will keep West Indies in this. A big lofted inside-out drive brings two off the last ball, and keeps the Indian fans nervously chewing their fingernails.

  9. 6 runs

    WI 65-2published at 8.1 overs

Humpty alert! Brilliant from Johnson Charles, down on one knee and marmalising Ashwin over midwicket for six.

"Slowly and surely the West Indies are working their way back into this."

  11. WI 59-2 (Charles 23, Simmons 21)published at 8 overs

What do West Indies need at the halfway mark? 70? 80? They won't want to lose another wicket, that's for sure. Hardik Pandya is into the attack - his first three balls are excellent, but an attempted bumper lacks the necessary venom and is clumped to the square-leg boundary by Johnson Charles. West Indies hanging in.

"Unbelievable. The length of stride Ashwin takes as an off-spinner is enormous but overstepping is the cardinal sin as a spinner."

  13. WI 51-2 (target 193)published at 7 overs

Well well. Drama. Lendl Simmons steps away to cut Ravichandran Ashwin and spoons a catch to Jasprit Bumrah. It looks like curtains. But the replay reveals that the bowler overstepped. In the commentary box, Sunil Gavaskar screams 'No! No!', struggling to hang on to his impartiality like a man struggling to hang on to his umbrella during a tornado. Could that be a turning point?

  14. WI 44-2published at 6 overs

Simmons gets lucky off the last ball, trying to work into the leg side and getting a top edge which lands safe. Good over though, 11 off it. Do that every over and West Indies will win. Simple, eh?

"Simmons has seen Jadeja before and knows this ground well from the IPL. That was a fine cricket shot."

  16. 6 runs

    WI 42-2published at 5.3 overs

Time for Ravindra Jadeja, a man with a beard so perfectly stencilled I suspect he may shave using a laser. Oh hello there! That is glorious from Simmons, stepping to leg and blasting him down the ground with a perfectly perpendicular bat.

"Nehra almost had a perfect over and then he bowled a short one on leg stump. That was a little bit of a gift."

  18. WI 33-2 (Charles 15, Simmons 4)published at 5 overs

The asking rate for West Indies has already crested 10. Johnson Charles, not a man typically inclined to play himself in any case, has got licence to have a swing here. However, Nehra is not an easy man to hit - he foxes Charles with three dot balls before the St Lucian finally gets himself off strike. Simmons keeps the over from being a total write-off by swivel-pulling off his hips for four.

James Cornish: Windies more than a one man team, he doesn’t always perform! How many times have we written off teams too early??

Robert Stubbs: Gayle gone! Match not over for the Windies! They've got plenty of players that can smash the leather off of the ball!

  20. WI 28-2 (target 193)published at 4 overs

All is not lost for West Indies. Lendl Simmons, who has a very good record on these pitches in the IPL, is the new man. Johnson Charles is capable too - as he proves by bludgeoning consecutive fours, pulling over short midwicket then swivelling behind fine leg.
