Trevor Bayliss on Alastair Cook: "No-one else is considering it. From my point of view he has the job for as long as he wants it. At the end of the last 12, 18 months we've seen improvement on how he captains the team.

"When the team loses matches the captain takes a lot of the blame, but he's got broad shoulders.

"We've shown improvement in every Test. If we do that over four or five days, there's no reason why we can't win."

George Sheldon

England coach Trevor Bayliss on the series defeat: "Most of the Test matches we've had one or two good days, or sessions, but when you're playing one of the best teams in the world in their home conditions, that's what you face.

"This game, the spinners would probably agree, they didn't hit their lengths like they did in the first three games. We tried three spinners in the first few games and that didn't work.

"We don't get to face the quality of spin bowlers they've got there in home conditions. The more we can come and play here, I'd like to think the next time we come here, we'd know what to expect."

Arsh Hubil: England should take heart that they avoided a whitewash. Heads up boys!!

Alastair Cook on the England captaincy: "It's a question that was asked of me right at the start and it hasn't changed. My position is the same as it was at the start of the tour.

"We have a debrief at the end of every tour but my position hasn't changed.

On Chennai: "Whichever side we play, we will give people the opportunity to show how good they are and press their name for selection in the future."

I would send for another kid from the Lions. If you have no confidence in Ballance, all he's had is nets and drinks, the kid must be soul destroyed. He should be sent home, it's ridiculous. Duckett isn't good enough when it turns. He's a one-day player. If you're not confident in them, let them go home. Going into the nets constantly, it's total despair.

Alastair Cook on the structure of the England side: "Our seamers have given us great control in this series in general. You watch how India's spinners bowl sometimes, they bowl defensively and keep the score down. Our seamers can do that.

"We wanted to try four seamers and two spinners to see how it played to our strengths.This looked a pretty same wicket to the one we played in Mumbai last time, but I think it spun more.

England captain Alastair Cook speaking on Sky Sports: "If someone offered me 400 after the first morning, I would have taken it. With India at 300-6 we had an opportunity.

"We need to play almost a perfect game out here to win and we keep missing opportunities. It's like we need to take 14 wickets (per innings). It's a missed opportunity, there's no doubt about it."

India captain Virat Kohli on today's win: "This is probably the sweetest of all that we've won so far in the past 14, 15 months. 3-0 against a top quality side who have beaten us the last two times, everything is really good.

"Batting was a test of patience. Once you get momentum you can thrive on the deliveries. I thought England had a spinner less. Once they tired you knew the bad balls would come your way.

"We sensed that they were trying to stop runs rather than take wickets so we went after them hard. It was a brilliant cricket wicket."

If it’s going to be like this, you can open with Anderson and Stokes. You need an extra spinner and an extra batsman. I don’t care who you leave out. I can’t pick bowlers just because Broad says he’s a good bowler and he’s fit. I have to pick one seamer, and Stokes, because the batting isn’t good enough.

Virat Kohli on the difference between the two side: "It's about the application. We spoke about this and we have worked on our defence. 

"If you don't have a good defence in India it's very difficult to counter the bowling we have. We sensed they don't have enough faith in the way they go about their innings. 

"We knew it's only a matter of time, we take a couple of wickets and they crumble quickly. We knew it wouldn't be long."

India captain Virat Kohli on the series victory: "It's a very special feeling. This is the ground, the last time we played England, that we lost our momentum and lost the series mentally. 

"The way the crowd came out and supported us, it gave us energy to push through the tough moments.

"I was pretty focused on this game, I knew it was a chance to seal the series so we can go to Chennai and express ourselves fully."

Alastair Cook on the structure of the England side: "When you don't have any warm-up games between Tests, that's the problem. We wanted to see what four seamers would look like. 

"On this wicket you saw how much it spun from day one and it didn't do much for the seamers. Maybe if we bowled first we would have had more in it for the seamers. 

"We were in this game with the balance of that side and we were in the game with 300-6. But would of, could of, all that kind of stuff isn't really good enough.

"The bottom line is we haven't been good enough to get over the line."

Good bowlers, you can get after them, like Root did, with a bit of luck and a touch of skill. Today, there was no rattling Ashwin. He found his length immediately and he polished them off in no time.

Alastair Cook on England's batting against the spin: "We scored almost 600 runs on this wicket. To me we batted better in this game than we had in the previous two games.

"I keep going back to the chances we missed. That is the reason we lost this game, the chances we didn't take.

"Virat is having one of those series you dream of, as a player and a captain. He leads from the front and that's a huge amount of credit to him. He's clearly one of the great batsmen of our generation."

After England have lost three on turning pitches, I don't think they're going to get a seamer in Chennai. They're going to get another turner. They better learn, and learn quickly. Whatever you're getting out to, they'll give it to you again.
