Here's the moment Joe Root brought Ed Joyce's watchful innings to an end.

  2. Ire 86-2published at 18 overs

Here's another stat from that 2011 Ireland win against England, skipper Will Porterfield got a diamond duck, out first ball of the innings. He nveils the reverse sweep to good effect in this Root over, however, and collects his second four.

Kyle Utterson‏: Brilliant again from England so far. I'm very excited about English cricket this summer we have a great chance.

  4. Ire 81-2published at 17 overs

    Plunkett 0-9 from 4

Liam Plunkett, who know holds the title of thickest beard in the England team with Moeen Ali on the sidelines, sends down another steady over, conceding only two singles. He has been up around 91mph in this innings, as has Mark Wood. He can have a drink now, as can the rest of the players. No one making them here though.

Smalesy: Ed Joyce and his ridiculous scoring rate put Stirling under pressure to keep hitting boundaries - poor from Joyce.

  6. Review does for Stirlingpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 7 May 2017

Paul Stirling's swashbuckling innings ends after the review showed an edge.

  7. Ire 79-2published at 16 overs

    Target 329

Andy Balbirnie, one of only four men in this Ireland team who did not play in the legendary 2011 World Cup win, is the new batsman.

Root has come very wide and angled it in. It didn't have a lot of turn it just carried on. Joyce gave himself room, expecting turn, but he has stitched himself up.

    WICKETpublished at 15.4 overs

    Joyce b Root 16 (Ire 77-2)

It has certainly quietened down since Stirling's departure. I very much enjoyed his innings, extraordinary crunching style he has, with virtually no follow through. Now Joyce has gone to the golden arm of Joe Root. It didn't do a lot but he played back and it crept through with a flat arm (albeit a golden one) to rattle the timbers.

  10. Ire 75-1published at 15 overs

    Target 329

Liam Plunkett is sporting a trendy beard which makes him look a tad more intimidating. Just three singles as Joe Root is announced as the new bowler. Here's Jamie Lillywhite to see you through the rest of the game. Enjoy!

  11. Ire 72-1published at 14 overs

    Target 329

England like Jake Ball a lot. They're always trying to get him into the side. He's certainly shown his worth here, despite overpitching and being driven for four by new man in the middle Will Porterfield.

We couldn't hear anything but the ultra edge microphone out there picked it up. He played some nice shots but Stirling is the first victim.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.2 overs

    Stirling c Billings b Ball 48 (43)

Yep, as suspected - based on England's absolute insistence on the review - an edge is found. Paul Stirling's impact has been entertaining but is far from enough in the grand scheme.

  14. Umpire reviewpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 7 May 2017

    Ire 68-0

Jake Ball's got Paul Stirling. We think.

A wild cut to one angled in. The ball is caught behind and despite the umpire saying not out, England review it.

  15. Ire 68-0published at 13 overs

    Stirling 48, Joyce 13

Liam Plunkett, sporting shoulders wider than my fridge, bowls a decent over from which just one run comes from it. Ireland have gone a little quiet in recent overs.

    Alan Lewis
Ex-Ireland batsman and chairman of selectors on BBC Test Match Special

Rate isn't important at all from an Irish perspective. The biggest issue is going into the final quarter of the match for there to be wickets in hand and if Stirling can be as selective as he has been to this point with his hitting.

  17. Ire 67-0published at 12 overs

    Target 329

Paul Stirling almost holes out when he tries to pull Jake Ball. He's late onto the shortish delivery and the ball squirts into the north-west London air but lands safely. Reprieve.

Matthew Mansfield: Wouldn't fancy fielding at cover to this Stirling. Looks a meaty chap with some heavy blows.

Paul Hilferty: 329 at Lords on a sunny day is very very chaseable.

  19. Ire 62-0published at 11 overs

    Target 329

There's a follicly-challenged chap having suncream applied to his head in the Lord's stand. If ever there's a sign the sun's got his hat on...

Every Ed Joyce-dominated over is anti-climatic while Paul Stirling is at the other end. Just three from the over.

  20. "Biffed away by Stirling"published at 15:57 British Summer Time 7 May 2017

There are only so many fours you can hit before you get bored and decide to smash a six into the stands.
