Jonny Bairstow's omission has not gone down well with some...

Marc Gridley: There shouldn't be one England team selected this whole summer and beyond without @jbairstow21, external. Walks into any team.

Tony S: Someone explain the obsession of playing Buttler in place of Bairstow.

Derry Bannister94: What does Bairstow have to do to get in the side? Will be disappointed if he doesn't get a game in the Champions Trophy at least.

  6. Bairstow left out by Englandpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

England captain Eoin Morgan says he's content enough to be batting first:

"We would have looked to bowl. It looks a pretty good surface, it's a beautiful day and hopefully we can make the most of the conditions.

"It's the first time we've had 15 fit guys to choose from."

On the omission of Jonny Bairstow, Morgan says: "It's always difficult leaving a Yorkshireman out on this ground but the top seven have done well for us over the last couple of years.

"It's going to be a fantastic test. Three games leading into a major tournament is obviously great preparation for us."

  7. 'It's all about winning'published at 13:39 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

South Africa captain AB de Villiers is in a confident mood:

"It looks like a really good wicket. I think it'll play well for 100 overs.

"We're pretty confident chasing here today, it is a gut feeling. We're going in with one spinner. Other than that it's pretty well balanced.

And on the make up of his side today: "There was talks about including Morne Morkel, it was a difficult decision.

"We'd really like to be in a position to play everyone at some stage in the series but it's all about winning."

So there's changes for both sides. England have left out Jonny Bairstow and David Willey as Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes return.

There's no Morne Morkel for South Africa, with Wayne Parnell chosen in favour of right-armer Dwaine Pretorius.

Glorious sunshine in Headingley as Eoin Morgan lobs the coin up in the air - and it's the returning AB de Villiers who calls it correctly.

South Africa will have a bowl first.

Nothing says top-class international cricket better than a glass trophy featuring a pelican.

Holding the reward for the series winners is Ben Stokes. You may have heard of him. He's quite good.

The Durham all-rounder missed England's two one-day matches against Ireland earlier this month to take part in the Indian Premier League.

Signed by Rising Pune Supergiant for £1.7m to become the IPL's most expensive foreigner, he responded by scoring 316 runs at a strike rate of 142.98 and taking 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.18.

He was named as IPL's most valuable player, and there's little doubt that he's England's too.
