Reg Regler: Yorkers did for six batsmen at my club this week. English problem? Do we attack the stumps enough, do we know how to defend them?

Alex Sumner: The Oval pitch today is a prime example of a toss you wouldn't want to win as a captain.

Matt Robinson: How much would England have lost by at Trent Bridge if Rabada had been available?

  5. Malan falls to Rabada yorkerpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

Debutant Dawid Malan played out 14 dot balls - spread either side of a rain delay - before getting off the mark. But he was back in the hutch after an absolute brute of an inswinging yorker from Kagiso Rabada. Watch this again and again...

The queues for the ladies' toilets at Lord's on Sunday were bigger than those for the men's. When does that ever happen at cricket? Cricket was really reaching out to a new demographic at the World Cup.

ECB head of women's cricket Clare Connor: "We've got the Ashes coming up - all being well with the Australian pay dispute, we'll be heading there on 5 October. Some of the players will then be playing in the Women's Big Bash in Australia We'll then be hosting South Africa and New Zealand next summer, I think we're getting to the stage where we'll have two teams touring each summer. And then, the next World T20 is a stand-alone women's event in the West Indies next year."

England did profit from four byes which evaded Quinton de Kock, but the Proteas keeper did hang on to a spectacular one-handed catch which removed captain Joe Root for 29.

Covers are still on, by the way - the entire Oval "square" (which, if you know the ground, stretches nearly across the whole ground) is covered, with ground staff sweeping water away Safe to say, we won't be resuming any time soon.

England opener Tammy Beaumont: "Coach Mark Robinson has showed a lot of belief in me, and it's been amazing to contribute to a winning team but we couldn't have done it without everyone. We'd love to grow the women's game, we'd love a franchise league in India but first and foremost we'd love to play more international cricket. It's taken Katherine Brunt 10 years to get more than 100 caps."

ECB head of women's cricket Clare Connor: "Players will walk away with around US $40,000 from winning the tournament, which is game-changing. But it's more important that young girls have female role models, particularly back in India. We've been really pleased with our new softball festivals, running alongside the World Cup - what's been amazing is that the two main areas of participation have been 15-17-year-olds, and 35-45-year-old women, who have been two of the more difficult areas to get involved."

England opener Tammy Beaumont: "I got recognised on the Tube on the way here, although coming to a cricket game it's a dead giveaway. We went round and did a lap of honour after the final, some of the parents were surprised we let them take photos with the World Cup trophy, but we're keen to inspire as many young girls as possible."

ECB head of women's cricket Clare Connor: "It's been a huge team effort over 18 months - tournament director Steve Elworthy deserves huge credit, the support from ICC management has been huge and the late decision to make sure every single game was broadcast live was a financial commitment, but a huge message of support from the ICC."

Another squally shower, it's bucketing down now and a gusting wind making life difficult for the groundstaff as they bring out the covers for the umpteenth time. That session saw 29.5 overs during which England scored 87 runs for the loss of three wickets. Somehow they have got to get 38 more overs in tonight so it is going to be a late one. Luckily Mr Mark Mitchener always has plenty of information at his disposal and here he is to guide you through the remainder of the day.

Rabada tries to produce another devastating yorker. Umpire Dar, still startling with this Abraham Lincoln-esque beard to those of us who only ever remember him clean-shaven, removes the bails for the end of the session and the heavy rain duly arrives as the players are departing.
