England need four wickets to win

We're just over 20 minutes from lunch, Anderson sends down a maiden to Elgar, as Boycott continues to fume on TMS about one of his hundreds being taken away.

    "It's a mess," Boycs says.

    "It's also a complete wind-up," Aggers concedes.

"Really? You muppet!" Geoffrey fumes, as the rest of the TMS box collapses in fits of laughter.

In Australia you do need someone who has a bit of pace, the ball is not going to swing like it does in England with the Dukes ball.

If Woakes, Ball and Roland-Jones are all fit who makes up your main 3 seamers for the next two or three series? How long do you think Broad and Anderson will remain the opening pair?

Morris gets an inside edge off Roland-Jones which disappears to the fine leg boundary.

And the TMS team appear to be winding Geoffrey Boycott up something rotten, with a "press release from the ICC" claiming that England's matches against the Rest of the World side in 1970, external (which were initially played as Test matches but were retrospectively stripped of Test status) are set to lose first-class status, after a request from the South African government... meaning that Boycott's 100th hundred at Headingley is no longer his 100th hundred!

I love the last day. Watching a duel to the end. One team fighting to win, one desperately holding on. THIS is test cricket for me!

One brave man has just sang Jerusalem, alone, with only the Barmy Army trumpeter for company. He was even applauded by the England players, with Jonny Bairstow particularly impressed.

Morris won't be doing any slogging against Anderson - his default shot to the "Burnley Express" is a back-footed defensive prod. Maiden over.

I would have bowled Anderson a bit earlier. I didn't mind Stokes bowling a few but Anderson passed the bat so many times with the new conker.

Here's that slog over mid-off from Morris which saw Moeen taken out of the attack.

Toby Roland-Jones has had a change of ends and with Anderson now operating at the Pavilion End, TRJ is moved to the Vauxhall End. Again, Elgar takes one hand off the bat as he jams his bat down on a defensive stroke - I wouldn't like to speculate on how battered Elgar's digits will be by the end of this Test..

And Aggers has noticed something he's never seen before. The non-striker Morris is standing on the same side of the wicket that TRJ is bowling from. This is because there is a short mid-on posted - but normally, wouldn't the non-striker just (as is his right) stand as wide as necessary on the non-bowling side, so as not to bump into the fielder?

I noticed at Lord's Root pulled Anderson early a couple of times and he didn't choose him first thing this morning. It shows he has the conviction of his decisions. I thought yesterday with the declaration he probably asked too many opinions. Don't ever ask bowlers because they always want the safety net. His instinct was right but he just ended up dragging it out a little bit.

Here's how Dean Elgar brought up his century:

TRJ off, JMA on. James Anderson, who turned 35 yesterday, gets his first bowl of the morning from the Pavilion End. Elgar gets off strike with a leg bye, Anderson probes Morris's defences and has him fishing outside off stump... but he survives for now.

Most people at home are probably thinking what is Morris doing coming down and slogging but he doesn't have the defensive game to be able to bat for four hours, you wouldn't class him as a front-line batsman by any means so he has to find a balance.

Morris hammers Moeen for four through the covers, before tickling a two to third man. There's a slip, silly point and short leg in place - the latter two are helmeted, as is the keeper. Moeen goes round the wicket - and Morris, a capable hitter in white-ball cricket, steps forward to blast him over mid-off for four. Attack, presumably, being the best form of defence for him.

I agree with Alec Stewart, you should give Mark Stoneman a Test match against the West Indies so he has some experience before the Ashes, which will be a high pressure environment. Australia have always got pace and the crowd is going to be going mad, so people that can handle themselves is a big factor. If you can get through it it's one of the most rewarding occasions of your career.

Elgar resumes his steadfast crease-occupation against Roland-Jones, who doesn't threaten the stumps much - keeper Jonny Bairstow has to take one delivery in front of first slip. Maiden over.

Having needed six wickets at the start of play, England should be pleased with two wickets in the first session - but I'm sure they'd love another in the 45 or so minutes before lunch.

The rain throughout the game hasn't allowed that patch of rough to deteriorate like it looked as though it would on day one. If we'd had dry, sunny weather, Moeen would have had some turn from that patch.
