Chris Morris is off the mark, guiding Moeen for two through the covers as the off-spinner aims at the occasional footmark outside off stump. I remember Graeme Swann saying how he loved playing against Doug "The Rug" Bollinger, who as a left-arm seamer would create footmarks perfect for Swann to bowl at.

Elgar has shown tremendous strength of mind, he has battled himself, his technique, but he puts in performances and finds a way. South Africa will be desperate to find him an opening partner. He has taken a lot of blows, his fingers are taped up all over the place and this is one he will remember.

England need four wickets to win

Elgar nudges Roland-Jones for the 17th four of his innings, it looks like he's going to have to do it all nearly single-handed from here. He has 106 from 157 balls, and Roland-Jones has match figures of 27.4-6-87-8.

Eight hundreds and eight fifties for Elgar now, a conversion rate of 50% obviously. The only other South African with a similar rate is Ashwell Prince, who made 11 hundreds and 11 fifties.

Dream debut for Roland-Jones, he has bowled superbly well. I thought in less helpful conditions he might just be a medium-pacer but his pace has been up in this innings, he has good balance and been accurate. Elgar and Bavuma fought hard but there has always been wickets in clusters for South Africa, that's been the problem.

It comes up with a slog for four over mid-off as he takes the attack to Moeen Ali - but what a battling century from Dean Elgar. He removes his helmet and raises his bat in celebration. The Proteas players on the balcony are on their feet too.

England need four wickets to win

Roland-Jones can't make that third breakthrough as Morris negotiates the over - but it's a double-wicket maiden. Well done TRJ.

Temba Bavuma lingered for a long time after seeing his fate sealed by the replay on the big screen. He got a pat on the back from Dean Elgar in sympathy. Nothing like for Vernon Philander. He was stone dead.

Hat-trick ball, three slips, gully, short mid-on and a short leg in place, James Anderson into leg slip, the crowd on their feet... New batsman Chris Morris gets the edge - and Ben Stokes at gully gets an outstretched hand to it but can't hold on as the ball lands between him and third slip.

That's an incredible non-shot, the ball never started outside the line, brilliant bowling but what on earth is Philander doing?

That was a brilliant review, they took their time but Roland-Jones was adamant, so that was a brilliant review. A massive wicket because he was batting very, very well and Elgar looked untroubled.

Now, was that bat or pad? It may have even hit him outside the line? But no, pad first, impact in line, wickets hitting, and gone! Root has been cautious about burning off reviews, but he's made a superb call here.

Now that's how to use the DRS, folks.
