South Africa have brought Kapp on because they realise they need to get Sarah Taylor early and get Heather Knight in. This is a key stage in the match.

Loving this chat. Places where you can watch cricket from. At Derby, the top floor of the media centre is the office for an insurance company. When Derbyshire are at home, they just have to look out of the window. You'd never get any work done. South Africa recall Marizanne Kapp, Beaumont greeting her with a cut for four. Some spin, perhaps?

It's a bit like South Africa have thrown a lasso around England and are just trying to pull them in. Or they have found a burst of speed and have cut the gap ever so slightly. Having said that, an edge from Taylor goes very fine to the third man boundary for four.

What's happening elsewhere, I hear you ask.

Over at Leicester, Australia have recovered from 7-2 to 31-2 against Pakistan. Rachael Haynes, who is captaining the team in the absence of the rested Meg Lanning, has hit a couple of boundaries to get things moving.

India are 43-2 against Sri Lanka in Derby. Skipper Mithali Raj has just arrived at the crease in that one.

Keeper Chetty is standing back to Ismail, which allows Tammy Beaumont a couple of steps down the track when she plays the ball. Since the fielding restrictions were relaxed, South Africa have done a better job of keeping a lid on scoring - there hasn't been a boundary - but a sloppy bit of fielding allows England though for an overthrow.

Sarah Taylor's technique looks better now than when she left the team. She looks in glorious form.

    Daniels 3-0-8-1

Sarah Taylor is number three, watching at the non-striker's end because the ball was in the air long enough for the batters to cross. Looking again, the Winfield wicket was actually a slower ball from Daniels. Winfield was on it miles too early.

That's an odd shot from Winfield. It wasn't short enough. She tried to do too much with the shot without setting herself. She'll feel she has given it away.

    Winfield c Luus b Daniels 24 (Eng 59-1)

Where has that come from? England lose their first wicket after a pretty ugly swipe by Lauren Winfield. Moseline Daniels is angling the ball at pretty gentle pace and Winfield attempts a smear through the leg side, playing across the line. A top edge goes straight up and the catch is well-judged by Sune Luus at point.

I'm itching to get my pads on and get out there - it's an absolutely unbelievable batting wicket.

Powerplay over, fielding restrictions relaxed, Shabnim Ismail once again trusted with the ball. In the shade of the England balcony, plenty of those waiting to bat sit eagerly, like they quite fancy a piece of this. This is better from Ismail, not like the earlier treatment she got from Beaumont...

At one end is a block of flats, a relatively new phenomenon at county cricket grounds. Bristol. Chelmsford. Taunton. If you have one, you end up with a cracking view of the cricket. People living round The Oval have had that for years. I can't think of many other countries where people can get sneaky views of the cricket, though one of the grounds in Wellington is next to a port and you can see in from the top deck of a cruise ship.

    Winfield 20, Beaumont 22

Winfield has the backlift of Jonny Bairstow, raised straight up to the sky, as if she is about to face the pitch on a major league baseballer. Too wide from Khaka, cut for four, with an over-compensated delivery then taken through mid-on. Fifty partnership, hug between the batting partners that were at university together. Winfield is flying after some early struggles...

Of all the captains in the World Cup, I like what I see from Dane van Niekerk. She's got a tactical mind.

  16. Eng 44-0published at 8 overs

Another change, the easy-paced left-arm medium of Moseline Daniels. Chetty is up to the stumps again. No sign of swing for Daniels, just some angle across the right-handers. The single slip is shifted to gully, with Beaumont then taking a single to Laura Wolvaardt at third man.

  17. Eng 42-0published at 7 overs

    Winfield 12, Beaumont 20

The expensive Ismail is withdrawn and replaced by the wonderfully-named Ayabonga Khaka. She too is struggling to get the ball in the right place. One too wide to allow Winfield a slash for a couple, another swinging to be called wide and test stood-up wicketkeeper Trisha Chetty. England are rattling along at six an over.

Kapp isn't getting the same shape she got against West Indies so far.

There are still lots and lots of fans coming into the ground, negotiating a metal barrier and waving some inflatable biffer sticks in the air. There are two strips of green running down either side of the pitch, but the dancefloor is a musty brown. South Africa haven't got enough deliveries in the right place. Leggy from Kapp, misfield, four for Winfield.

It would have been a brave decision to bat first. There's a lot of grass on the wicket, it's a fresh pitch and has good carry. England will be feeling they are getting best use of a pitch which might get slower in the second innings.
