  • Lancs' Buttler & Hameed out cheaply

  1. 'No glut of runs at Hove'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Sussex 86-3 v Gloucestershire - lunch

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire

    Hove

Hundreds of school children are enjoying the high tea interval at Hove as they are allowed on the pitch to play; sadly for them there hasn't been a glut of runs with the pink ball.

Only 86 runs scored in the first session with the visitors bowling tightly for the loss of three wickets.

  2. 'Derbyshire the happier of the two'published at 16:32 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Glamorgan v Derbyshire 86-1 - lunch

    Peter Miller
    BBC Sport at Cardiff

Derbyshire have recovered well from the early loss of Luis Reece to reach the interval that happens at 4pm and lasts 40 minutes and which we are unsure as to its name.

Reece fell to the bowling of Timm van der Gugten when he left alone a ball that cannoned into his pads and he was dismissed lbw. Since then Wayne Madsen and Billy Godleman have put on 85 runs without any further dramas with Madsen looking progressively more fluent and Godleman being as doughty in his resistance as usual.

The pink ball has been behaving pretty well so far but there have been a couple of times when fielders have been a little slow to react, seemingly losing the ball as it left the bat.

This could be as much to do with getting used to the new colour as anything else. Derbyshire will be the happier of the two teams after the first 29 overs of this match.

  4. 'Pace came off the ball'published at 16:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Essex v Middlesex 106-2 - lunch

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

What appeared a fantastic toss to lose has turned into a brilliant one to win by Middlesex's unbeaten century stand for the third wicket.

At 2-2, with both openers back in the pavilion and Mohammad Amir and Jamie Porter swinging the pink ball at pace, Essex were relishing the prospect of ripping through the top and middle order.

The pitch is particularly green and the ball was extremely responsive to the surface from the first delivery.

Interestingly though, the pace seemed to come off the ball after about thirty minutes and by the time both opening bowlers' spells had ended (just before the hour mark) the movement of the ball had also appeared to reduce.

There did seem to be additional bounce throughout the session - particularly for the off spinner Simon Harmer, which will be interesting to monitor as the game progresses.

  5. 'Duckett dominating for Northants'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Northants 141-2 v Leicestershire - lunch

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

Leicestershire's players reported not being too happy with the pink ball in practise, saying it didn't last long. They will like it even less after this session where Ben Duckett has slapped them around.

There was a little bit of swing very early on for the left-armer Dieter Klein but otherwise nothing to encourage the bowlers and nothing for Rob Sayer - the spinner who was brought on for just the 14th over.

It's a weird feeling being off for 40 minutes at this time of day - I propose the intervals should be switched around so just a 20 minute light sandwich break now and then a longer proper break for tea later this evening.

  6. 'Pattinson puts Notts on top'published at 16:19 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Nottinghamshire v Kent 101-5 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

James Pattinson has given Nottinghamshire the upper hand during the first session at Trent Bridge.

For the first time this season an opposing captain opted to toss the coin in Nottingham and Kent’s Sam Northeast chose to bat once he’d won it.

Just 5.2 overs later, the wisdom of that decision might have been questioned as Pattinson picked up his third wicket to leave the visitors reeling at 6-3.

Luke Fletcher picked up two wickets, but Daniel Bell-Drummond has so far stood firm to reach the first break unbeaten on 49.

  7. 'Wickets tumbling for Durham'published at 16:16 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Durham 97-7 v Worcestershire - lunch

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

The bowlers spoke before this match of how the pink ball would benefit them during the early exchanges and it certainly proved to be the case.

Durham were 18-5 after 9.2 overs and lost a wicket an over from the point where Cameron Steel edged John Hastings behind in the sixth over on five. England opener Keaton Jennings is playing in the first two days of this one and got a thick inside edge to a Joe Leach inswinger when he was on six.

And the wickets kept tumbling with Ben Stokes out for 0 edging a Hastings ball behind that he tried to leave.

Paul Collingwood and Ryan Pringle then added 46 for the sixth wicket with Pringle the first player to actually make double figures before he was out for 11. Collingwood then edged a ball to the slips from Josh Tongue when he was on 25 and indicated it left him late.

How they have made it to the break without being dismissed I am not sure, but they are now 97-7. Their lowest score against Worcestershire is 120.

  8. 'Don't believe pink ball is playing tricks'published at 16:14 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    Warwickshire v Lancashire 79-4 - lunch

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Some will look at this match and think the pink ball is playing tricks. Don't believe it. Two poor shots, one suicidal run and a brilliant catch have Warwickshire on top.

Is that the case elsewhere, or is the pink ball having its say?

    Northants 139-2 v Leicestershire

    Ben DuckettImage source, Rex Features

Wow. What a moment for Ben Duckett. The Northants opener reaches his first Championship hundred of the season with just his 89th ball.

It's contained a whopping 20 fours and offers a very well-timed 'look at me' in the direction of the England selectors, who could've been forgiven for forgetting the left-hander in their Test thoughts.

The Hampshire opener flashes hard at Somerset spinner Jack Leach, but Marcus Trescothick can't cling on in the slips.

    Swings and roundabouts, I suppose.

    Durham 64-7 v Worcestershire

This season is turning into a nightmare for Durham. Having been relegated and docked points for financial irregularities, they are rock bottom of Division Two and with just one win in seven matches.

At home to Worcestershire today they're in real trouble as Ryan Pringle and Paul Collingwood fall in quick succession to Ed Barnard and Josh Tongue respectively.

Stuart Poynter and Mark Wood are now at the crease. The latter could be bowling with the pink ball soon if it continues like this.
