Another good win for Northamptonshire, who are doing their best to keep pace with the promotion race.

This was their seventh win of the season - two more than they achieved when winning promotion in 2013.

They were ahead in this game all the way through and could well have wrapped up a bigger victory had they ended Glamorgan's lower-order resistance earlier yesterday afternoon.

But it is 22 more points and promotion still up for grabs with Nottinghamshire at home and Leicestershire away in their remaining games - they will have to win both and hope that Notts and/or Worcestershire slip up in the final round.

Umpires Russell Evans and Graham Lloyd decide no further play is possible after a rain shower at Uxbridge.

Middlesex take nine points and Hampshire eight - both, though, remain in danger of relegation with two rounds of games to go.

Nick Compton is 11 not out when the game is called off, with Stevie Eskinazi on three.

Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens claims his seventh 'five-for' of the summer by bowling Josh Shaw for two at the Brightside Ground. Gareth Roderick is 43 not out, despite batting with a finger injury, and Gloucestershire's lead is 248.

This could turn into a one-day style chase.

Sussex's 250 is brought up by Luke Wright boundary. Stiaan van Zyl (85 not out) then joins the attack with a four of his own before another from Wright (75 not out).

Sussex have scored 29 in five overs since the tea interval.

They need another 124 with seven wickets remaining.

The penultimate round of Championship matches takes place next week with the prospect of six teams still being in danger of relegation, and Notts taking on Northants in a game which could go a long way to deciding who goes up from Division Two.

With this game looking like a draw, and a similar scenario between Middlesex and Hampshire, Warwickshire's Division One status is hanging by a thread.

The rain, which blighted the first three days of this game, returns and we wonder how much enthusiasm there is among the two sets of players to resume the action. Middlesex have four bonus points so far and Hampshire have three.

Northamptonshire keep up their promotion push with an excellent win over Glamorgan.

They're up to 178 points, 29 points behind Nottinghamshire who they play next week at Wantage Road.

Play restarts at Cardiff and immediately Alex Wakely hits a boundary for Northamptonshire.

Providing the weather holds, this game is in the balance, with Sussex needing 154 to win in 36 overs

Stiaan Van Zyl and Luke Wright have added 89 for the fourth wicket, with Wright, in particular, looking to attack whenver possible.

However, Hardus Viljoen has already taken 10 wickets in the match and he is certain to bowl after tea. With a new ball available in 20 overs this game could go down to the wire.

As Gloucestershire take tea against Kent at Bristol, we just want to wish former all-rounder Mike Procter a happy 71st birthday.

A genuinely fast bowler and destructive batsman, he took 1,417 first-class wickets during his career at a cost of less than 20 runs each and scored 48 centuries.

He only played seven Tests for South Africa because of their exile from international sport in the apartheid era, and spent several summers with Gloucestershire - and memorably took a televised hat-trick against Hampshire in a 1977 B&H Cup semi-final.

The rain has cleared and the outfield dry enough for the restart in Cardiff.

Northamptonshire will be breathing a sign of relief because they only need another nine runs to beat Glamorgan.

That ends an excellent game at New Road.

Leicestershire gave it a pretty good go, scoring 624 runs and still coming out on the losing side.

Callum Parkinson deserves a mention too with 10 wickets in the match but Worcestershire knock Nottinghamshire off top spot.

The honour of hitting the winning runs for Worcestershire falls to Ravichandran Ashwin.

Worcestershire are now top of Division Two.
