I'm off for a break myself.

Perhaps the returning Amy Lofthouse will be a better omen for England's bowlers?

I'll catch you nearer the close. Cheers!

Steve Smith's knock is up there with the great hundreds. It's been a wonderful innings. It's been a century full of skill. I'm sure he'll get another throughout this series that will be more powerful and exciting, in terms of strokeplay, but this has been more exciting for another reason - determination.

Woakes goes round the wicket at the left-handed Hazlewood but the number 10 easily fends off both balls sent down back of a length.

And that's tea. Very much Australia's session, lit up by Steve Smith completing a majestic century.

Lots of questions for Joe Root to face at the end of the day as to why James Anderson and Stuart Broad weren't brought on straight after lunch.

The ovation Pat Cummins just got was as if he'd got a double ton. Steve Smith could get carried off the Gabba on the shoulders of Crocodile Dundee, Cathy Freeman and Dame Edna.

Root directs his fielders out to the leg side with Smith on strike - they've racked up some miles today with the captain's funky field settings.

Woakes with a well-directed bumper at Smith that the centurion just above ducks under. Decent that.

That's not - wide and short and Smith leans back to guide it up over gully for four.

Now Smith on the pull, sprinting the first but deciding against the second.

Two balls for Hazlewood to face before tea...

Hazlewood isn't a bad bat. And Lyon at 11 - he's been a pest before.

Anderson shows the first signs of flagging, a loose delivery crashed to the fence by Smith.

The Aussie skipper then clips off his pads for one, giving new man Josh Hazlewood two balls to face in this over.

He avoids the first and clips the second away to deep square leg for two as the hosts move to 20 runs behind.

Pat Cummins' 42 came from 120 balls in 138 minutes. He and Steve Smith added 66 runs from 194 balls.

Aggers is right, big credit to Cummins for the role he played in that stand of 66 with Smith.

The number nine faced most of the deliveries and looked entirely at ease, partly helped by some lacklustre England bowling.

He was finally removed by a cracking catch by Cook, low to his right.

Cummins chased that and has paid the price but that's an excellent 42. He leaves the pitch with the sides even stevens.

Out of nowhere! Another pleasant but largely nonthreatening over from Chris Woakes until the final ball.

He pitches it up outside off, drawing Pat Cummins into the drive and this time the number nine misjudes it, nicking through to Alastair Cook, who takes a fine diving catch in the slips.

Huge for England. Can they nip the last two out quickly to rescue a turgid session?

Something to spark you out of your slumber - James Anderson finally gets one to beat Pat Cummins' bat.

Brief interest from behind the stumps - did he edge that? Alastair Cook shakes his head and Joe Root duly decides against a review. Jonny Bairstow isn't impressed, but that could well be more to do with the match situation.

Cummins clips off his pads to another to the total.

Steve Smith averages 71 as captain. Ridiculous. Australia should look to give him as much responsibility as possible. Elect him Prime Minister perhaps?

For now, he calmly sees off five balls of Chris Woakes' over after Pat Cummins adds a single from the first. Not offering England even a hint of a wicket.

You'd say this session has been the worst England have produced in the match. It's been very strange at times, in terms of tactics.

James Anderson is excellent. Six balls on the money.

Trouble is, he's bowling at a guy on 103 who is seeing everything so clearly and has the discipline to match.

Steve Smith sees off a maiden and could soon see off this spell from England's best bowler too.
