England haven't taken a first-innings lead on this ground since 1990. Joe Root wasn't born then.

Broad hangs a few well outside off, trying to see if Smith will suddenly waft rashly at one.

You and I no the answer to that - the Aussie captain is dug right in and not prepared to just gift England his wicket.

Tighter lines from Broad follow but Smith calmly plays out a maiden.

In St Lucia listening to the karaoke hoping for a few more wickets before the wailing stops. Terrible Beyoncé rendition at the moment. Thank goodness for the live text updates.

England were Jumpin' Jumpin' before lunch but have been pretty Sorry since. Can Broad help them Work it Out?

Moeen completes the over and boos start ringing out at the Gabba.

Not for the off-spinner of course. But you know what it means - Broad is back on.

And not before time, England have left this drift since lunch.

It has been odd, this. England are losing the considerable advantage that they had. I'd be interested to know the reasoning for it.

Apparently Anderson's issue was a problem with the strapping on his shoulder.

Hopefully that's all been sorted while he was off the field just now.

Broad seems to be limbering up a bit as well. England need their premium pair to wrest back control.

Not least because Cummins has just battered a lacklustre Moeen back down the ground and into the stands.

  7. Aus 245-7published at 100 overs

Five tidy delivers from Woakes ruined by a poor one down leg that Cummins flicks round the corner and to the fence.

Anderson is coming back onto the field. Root goes over to him. If he's fit, he surely has to be bowling ASAP.

My day began at 4:30 when I couldn’t sleep any longer, and had to greedily watch the end of Day 2. I’m still awake and close to ticking in to the 24th hour, bookended by addictive cricket, accented by a pint or two. Watching, listening and reading about Jimmy and Stuart is a delight.

As the whispers about what is going on with Anderson rise in volume, Moeen continues but it's all a bit tame.

A run apiece to Smith and Cummins, who are slowly but surely ticking Australia closer to parity.

James Anderson is having a wander off the field. Craig Overton is coming on as 12th man.

James Anderson has just left the field...Hmmmm

Official word from England is he's fine...

Change in the field for England, indicating a change in tactics to Cummins. It's been a fairly orthodox field so far for the number nine but now they put six men on the leg side, with two men out deep.

That's means Woakes will go straight at Cummins, looking for lbw and bowled, with the odd short ball mixed in, which the Warwickshire man duly does.

A well-directed bumper sees the lanky Cummins take evasive action but the number nine looks secure.

I think Moeen might be a bit injured, for some reason. He's not quite completing his action. It's not skippy. He looks a bit flat footed when he's delivering the ball. There's not that much drive through the wicket and he looks a bit flat.

Smith tickles it away for one - happy to pick up a single every over and let Cummins face plenty of deliveries.

No real threat from Moeen as Cummins also nabs one. Decent strike rotation from this pair - they've put on 30.

    O Broad, Where Art Thou?

For now, Woakes continues - Smith grabs his customary single off the first ball before Cummins punishes a half volley by smacking it through the covers for four.

    Lovely stroke that.

Smith dabs away a single to bring Cummins on strike but a poor ball from Moeen allows the number nine to jog through for one.

The Aussie skipper picks up another to move onto 90 - he's now 10 shy of a sixth Ashes century.

A bit flat from England after lunch.

The news on Anderson, officially, is that he's fine. There is a suggestion that he was hit while batting yesterday fairly early on, and he may have taken a blow to the side. He has bowled quite a lot. It may have stiffened up and he may be feeling it.

  20. Aus 229-7published at 94 overs

So Cummins on strike to Woakes, who's on the money with every ball and the Aussie number nine is forced to play out a maiden.

Much better from Woakes today after a lacklustre spell yesterday.

Still no sign of Anderson taking the ball - Moeen is up next.

If you haven't heard, Anderson was grimacing a bit and holding his side before the interval, but the England camp say he's fine. Here's Simon Mann with a bit more news...
