    Target 170

Ooh, hello. David Warner goes after Chris Woakes' first ball and the slips like it. Woakes, not so much. Warner went for a pull to a decent bouncer, and he wasn't in control of the shot, but he just about avoided edging it. Warner then goes for a ferocious cut and Aleem Dar, and square leg, just about avoids getting a nasty bruise on the ankle. Broad then jogs in for a friendly word with the batsmen. He's not the most subtle, and umpire Erasmus waves him away.

Joe Root is going to make his first change of the morning. Here's Chris Woakes.

  3. Aus 130-0published at 40 overs

    Warner 71, Bancroft 56

That's a nice looking shot from Bancroft, hopping onto the back foot and cracking a couple through the covers. Anderson then squares Bancroft up, his hands getting tangled together, but a leading edge drops safely and that'll be another couple to Australia. Another few teasers come Bancroft's way but he leaves them alone.

Cameron Bancroft hasn't settled this morning. Another delivery from Broad goes whizzing past his outside edge, before he clips a couple of deliveries off his pads towards the waiting fielder. He gets off strike with a confident looking drive, while an Anderson shy at the stumps almost ends up clattering into the batsman's boots. Warner ends the over with a little flirt at a leg-cutter.

This situation is horrible. I've been in it a fair few times. It would be nice for England to just take a couple with them. It would be especially nice to get Khawaja in and out.

  6. Aus 124-0published at 38 overs

    Bancroft 51, Warner 70

Craig Overton has scored three ducks on this tour so far. I know England wouldn't be bringing him in for his batting, but still, you want to strengthen that tail up.

Four! James Anderson sends down a short ball, and Warner pulls nicely, swiveling on his tiptoes and working the ball square. He works another quick single while Anderson looks in disgust at the footholes. A play and miss from Bancroft, going for a big, expansive cover drive, rounds off the over.

Louis Parry: Only change has to be Overton for Ball. Consistent and has had more game time under his belt on tour and showed wicket-taking ability.

Katya Witney: I say Moeen and Bairstow back to normal batting order and give Overton a go instead of Ball. Look at Wood in Lions game to see if he's possible at Adelaide or later. But batsmen need to get into the discipline of not falling into Australia's plans. Not easy to do though.

Ashley: First change has to be Cook. He can't play the new ball anymore. Only one to step up is Root...

"Wait on, no run!" shouts David Warner whilst simultaneously charging down the wicket. Helpful for your batting partner, I'd imagine. Broad goes full to him again, before a floaty delivery is cut away for one. Bancroft, who is in no hurry, lets his first ball from Broad float over his stumps, before he hoicks a delivery away from his hip.

The Aussies may be talking up a big 10-wicket win and how the Poms collapsed but inwardly I don't think they'll be thinking like that. England gave them a real challenge here.

  10. Aus 118-0published at 36 overs

James Anderson will take the next over, and Warner scampers a single straight away. Anderson gets a few deliveries to shape back in to Bancroft, and the Australia opener throws his hands above his head and leaves well alone. Just a single from the over.

My connection to Melbourne got cancelled last night so I missed my flight to the UK this morning. Heard rumours of the chance to pay $1 for a few hours of misery... be rude not to I suppose. Fancy the pool Tuffers? Thanks for the entertaining commentary all weekend!!

The main noise around the Gabba this morning is the Barmy Army launching into a rendition of Jerusalem. The first runs of the day comes just as the song reaches it crescendo, as Warner presses forward and runs hard and fast to pick up three. Broad bowls that nagging off stump line, and Bancroft defends to cover. That's a lovely touch from the England fans, standing and singing "there's only one Phillip Hughes" as Broad rounds off the over.

Hmm. David Warner makes his intent known by cracking a cover drive at Stuart Broad's first delivery, but it rolls right to the fielder at cover.

Australia need just 56 runs to win. It'll be Stuart Broad to open for England, while James Anderson goes through his warm-up routine.

Today marks three years since Phillip Hughes died after being struck by the ball during a Sheffield Shield match.

David Warner has paid tribute to his former national and international teammates.

He and Bancroft, along with the other Australia players, will wear black armbands as a mark of respect.

I think there are quite a few positives for England. They'll be disappointed with the way batsmen have got to 50 and not gone on. Smith's innings, for me - you take that out of the game and England have performed quite well, and went toe-to-to for three days.

Australia wicketkeeper Tim Paine, speaking to BT Sport: "To be on the verge of winning my first Ashes Test is great - I'd have laughed if you said that would happen a week ago."

On the Moeen Ali dismissal: "It was a tight call. We were confident when it went upstairs but it was a matter of what it looked like on the television."

On relations between the two teams: "It's been good in the middle. I've heard a lot about Ashes rivalry and the sledging which goes on. It's very competitive but nothing untoward."

There's a few positives for England, but not as many as you'd like to take out of this Test match. There's more for Australia. If England come out today looking like they've got no intensity then that could set the tone for the rest of the series.

  19. England will get 'more of the same'published at 23:50 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

Australia bowler Josh Hazlewood, speaking to ABC: "We've talked about how fragile England's middle to bottom order is. I think we've made our plans pretty obvious. There'll be more of the same, going forward.

"I was a little off in that first innings and we tried to bowl a little too full. We hit in hard in the second and got the pace out of the wicket.

"To win in this style does send some cracks in their side. Hopefully we can keep that moving forward."

This sounds like a storm in a teacup. I can't actually understand why this has come to light, so to speak. If you thought all the things that were said on the field were true, you'd be in court all your life!
