  1. Aus 202-3published at 05:36 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

A strangled appeal from Curran for lbw against Marsh but that was going a fair bit down leg.

A leg bye brings Smith on strike and again Curran tries that cheeky back-of-the-hand slower ball but the Aussie skipper isn't drawn into a false shot before he picks up a single.

More words from Smith to Curran and/or vice-verse as Broad also gets involved.

  2. Aus 200-3published at 67 overs

Marsh watchful off the first two - the third is tossed wide but Marsh misses out.

The Aussie number five uses his feet to turn a full delivery into a low full toss and scampers two down the ground after a fumble by James Vince.

Another single down the ground and that's 200 up for Australia.

Malan to Smith - no run. Tidy but uninspiring.

This is biggest pat on the back for Malan but think about Moeen Ali now. The captain has lost faith in his off spinner.

Er, Dawid Malan is coming on.

Joe Root clearly doesn't trust Moeen Ali at the moment, the off-spinner has bowled a fair amount of dross today.

It has been a brilliant fightback. I have been very proud of how Tom Curran has led the charge. He has done nothing more than be a good honest bowler and shown that Curran family self belief.

I believe it has inspired Stuart Broad as well who has looked a different bowler.

  6. Aus 196-3published at 66 overs

    Smith 37, Marsh 12

Curran sends down yet another accurate over, with Smith only able to clip away for a single off it.

England needs this man out pronto. He's keeping the scoreboard ticking over and dragging this day firmly back Australia's way after that period of pressure from England.

  9. Aus 195-3published at 65 overs

Moeen is just offering easy runs for Australia - an over-pitched one on the legs is clipped by Marsh, beating Broad's dive and racing to the fence on the short straight boundary.

Marsh and Smith are easily able to rotate the strike, picking up a total of eight runs from the over.

Curran has good energy. As a young guy in his first Test you want to see that anyway but he bowls good areas and the ball skids on.

He will have to do little bit in the air and have good control but he is bowling well here.

  11. Aus 187-3published at 05:20 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

As bad as things have been for England this series, they haven't quite been 9-5 bad.

Curran still bustling in, all very tidy and not giving Smith any room to unfurl a scoring stroke.

The Surrey man goes back to his deft back-of-the-hand slower ball but Smith is equal to it.

A dot to finish and that's a maiden.

It's fair to say West Indies are in a spot of bother in the third one-day international against New Zealand in Christchurch. The tourists are 9-5, needing another 157 runs to win a rain-interrupted match. Ross Taylor's unbeaten 47 was the highlight of New Zealand's 131-4. Follow the action here.

  13. Aus 187-3published at 63 overs

    Smith 34, Marsh 6

Moeen is leaking runs. Smith chops it away to point for two before clipping off his pads for one.

A wide one is duly cut away firmly by Marsh for four.

If there was something said between Root, Bairstow and Shaun Marsh, it would be interesting, considering that Marsh played for Yorkshire last summer. Bairstow has spoken before of how he considers Marsh to be a friend.

  15. Aus 180-3published at 05:12 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

A tidy return from Curran, just a single apiece for Smith and Marsh.

A slower, short ball to finish, a big change up that Smith reads and turns away for another run.

Here comes Tom Curran, still looking for his first Test wicket.

If you weren't with us earlier, he had David Warner caught on 99, only for replays to show he'd overstepped and it was a no ball.

Sickener for England. Not so for these young Aussies fans.

One section of spectators has just belted out a verse of Wonderwall. From the same section, there's a beach ball being patted around, so they may be singing about a Wonderball.

  18. Aus 177-3published at 61 overs

Play is momentarily stopped as both umpires step in to have a word with the batsmen and the England fielders around them. Looks like more verbals being exchanged.

Moeen 'serene' Ali isn't interested and wheels away a couple of dot balls to finish the over.

  19. Aus 176-3published at 05:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

Moeen Ali is back into the attack. Oh. Oh dear.

A terrible long hop that Smith carts away to the fence, with Malan making a hash of his attempted diving stop.

Moeen and tying an end down are not acquaintances right now.
