Aus 613-6published at 02:41 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2018

Sharp turn from Moeen and Starc chases it but wisely pulls out of the shot.

No pulling out of that one though - Moeen goes full and Starc batters it away over mid-wicket and into the stands.

This is Broad's chance for his 400th wicket. Starc is surely going to play a shot or two.

  5. Aus 606-6published at 188 overs

    Paine 26, Starc 5

Paine punches down the ground for what looks like four, but Moeen - ignoring the heat and the state of the game - chases it admirably all the way and pulls it in, saving a run.

Broad to Starc - it keeps low into the pads and Broad puts in a halfhearted lbw appeal but that was sliding miles down leg.

Starc guides away for two, then flays at a straight one, misses and Bairstow makes a decent diving catch behind. Oh, the keeper wants a review - don't think there was any noise. Joe Root wisely says no - snicko confirms there was no edge.

    Roger that. It's 42 degrees.

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

This is the fifth time in 15 away Tests since New Year 2016 that England have conceded 600. They conceded 600+ away from home five times between 1955 and 2015 (none from 1955 to Dec 2003).

  8. Aus 601-6published at 187 overs

    Lead by 255

Mitchell Starc is the new man in - expect him to try and batter a few boundaries.

He has to settle for a one and a two to start, but does take Australia past the 600 mark.

A magnificent knock from Shaun Marsh, building on fine work from the top order to really grind England down.

To say England's celebration was muted would be to overstate it. Mark Stoneman pulled off a blinder but barely shrugged.

A tremendous ovation for Shaun Marsh - he has had a tremendous series. He's a fine player.

S Marsh run out (Stoneman) 156 (Aus 596-6)

Well when you are on 156 and it's 42 degrees, you're allowed not to sprint a quick single.

Tim Paine knocks it into the covers and Shaun Marsh is sluggish taking off.

It's a tremendous piece of fielding from Mark Stoneman, mind. He picks up cleanly and quickly scythes down the stumps, with Marsh stranded.

You get the sense from Steve Smith that he wants to keep England out there - he wants to make them melt.

  16. Aus 590-5published at 185 overs

    Lead by 244

Mix-up between Marsh and Paine after the former cuts away Moeen - chance if England throw to the bowler's end... but they don't and Paine scampers back in time.

And then Marsh dances down the pitch and whacks Moeen over his head for four.

Moeen then gets the last to keep very low. Warning signs - Nathan Lyon will have enjoyed watching that delivery.

Pretty understated celebrations from Shaun Marsh.

    Aus 584-5

An irked Stuart Broad strays straight and Marsh clips it away for three - that's his 150. Terrific innings. Muted celebration. All about setting up Australia's victory charge now.

The players are back out at a scorching SCG.

Stuart Broad has the ball in his hand.

Will we finally be able to use the 400 Test wickets graphic we've had prepared since day two?

He's one away...but that's felt very far away. Anyway, here we go...
