I'M ON THE FIELD! Colin de Grandhomme has nipped off and that means Matt James Henry, the greatest bowler of all time, is on as a sub. Why he doesn't get a game I have no idea. Ok, ok, I'm a little biased I'll admit.

Boult responds to that six from Bairstow by going round the wicket to restrict the England batsmen. It works to a degree. Just two more from the rest of the over.

What a shot! Jonny Bairstow hardly moves his feet but it flies off the middle of the bat. Brilliant from Bairstow.

  3. Eng 40-1published at 7.1 overs

Yeah. So I'll amend that last statement.

Jonny Bairstow is looking REALLY good!

He just picks a ball up off a length and whips it to wide fine leg for six. A brilliant shot. Plenty of wrist in that.

  4. Eng 34-1published at 7 overs

    Need 190 to win

Joe Root is ticking away with singles to get himself going here. These two are really pushing hard on the first run, trying to turn singles into twos. Another single to Root brings Bairstow on strike and he drives again for his fourth boundary. Jonny B is looking in good touch here. He's up to 21 from 22 balls.

  5. Eng 26-1published at 6 overs

198 runs to win from 44 overs

Trent Boult brushes his hair out of his eyes after the end of a good over that only costs one run. There's still plenty of support for the bowler coming from the fielders. New Zealand know they need to strike early.

Injured New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a tough one - our schedule is just travel, train, play so it's important to get these things right.

"There are a number of senior players out there leading the side. I have some involvement but it's also important to give guys space.

"We would've liked a few more but if we can get early wickets and put them under pressure in the middle order then we're in the game."

If at first you don't succeed...

Tim Southee over corrects his line on the final two balls of the over and serves two deliveries outside off stump. Bairstow cuts both. The first time he doesn't quite time it and only manages two but the second time he finds the rope despite a big dive from Trent Boult running round from third man.

    Target 224

A beauty. Jason Roy crashed the ball to the fence earlier but Jonny Bairstow has shown all his touch in caressing the ball to the fence here.

Again a little too straight from Tim Southee but the ball races off Bairstow's bat through mid-wicket.

  9. Eng 15-1published at 4 overs

There's plenty of encouragement from the crowd as Trent Boult greets Joe Root with a bouncer that fizzes past his helmet. They like what they see and so do the New Zealand players. A fair bit of chirp.

The Black Caps have the early wicket they needed. Can Joe Root calm any England nerves?

Jason Roy will be disappointed - it was a long hop that deserved to be pulled but he didn't really hit it over the top or roll it down on the ground.

    Roy c Santner b Boult 8 (Eng 14-1)

Another sharp catch in this game of good catches.

Jason Roy may well think he's unlucky here. Trent Boult bangs it in short and the England opener nails a pull shot but hits it straight to Mitchell Santner at square leg. The ball is heading down and the Kiwi, who scored a maiden ODI fifty earlier, plucks the ball just above the turf.

If I got out to Tim Southee when he jumps wide of the crease I'd be asking for a review and asking for the third umpire to check his back foot. Because his back foot breaks the line every time he jumps wide and that's a no ball.

    Roy 8, Bairstow 4

Thanks, Ben. We aim to please.

Good comeback from skipper Southee. Three dots and then another on the final as the ball nips back off the pitch and clatters into Jason Roy's thigh pad.

There's an appeal for lbw but that was comfortable going over the top.

Crash. Is Jason Roy going to nudge his way to this total? Not a chance. A step down the pitch and he absolutely hammers Tim Southee over the off side for four.

Four more! Southee strays onto the pads and Roy doesn't miss out. Clip to the mid-wicket fence.

    England are away.

Jonny Bairstow just stood there and admired that shot and well he might. Superb shot.

A beauty to start from Trent Boult. Over the wicket from the left-armer and a bit of swing to beat Bairstow's bat. I think these two are my favourite non-English fast bowlers in world cricket.

Boult throws one a bit fuller looking for the edge but Bairstow is alert to this one. With a swish of the blade it races through the covers.

The Bay Oval is 11472 miles from the Emirates Stadium but there's still someone with a Wenger Out sign in the crowd.

Poor Arsene. I bet he was happily watching this game, trying to get away from the Gunners' troubles.

  19. Eng 2-0published at 1 over

    Target 224

One thing New Zealand will have to do is match England's energy in the field and they make a good start. Jason Roy punches down the ground but Mitchell Santer dives across to prevent the run.

Tim Southee bowls two wides in this first over but otherwise it's actually a really good start. No runs come off the bat and the skipper gets a bit of nibble and beats the outside edge of Roy's bat.

  20. Eng 0-0published at 05:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Thanks Jack.

So England will need to score 224 runs from 300 balls.

That's a required rate of 4.48 runs per over.

It'll be New Zealand's captain for the day Tim Southee to Jason Roy to start things off.
