    Surrey 211 & 407-9d v Hampshire 147 & 116-4 (42.5 overs)

Surrey batsman Ollie Pope scored a wonderful 145 yesterday to put his side in a great position going into day four needing six Hampshire wickets to record an opening win.

"It was a difficult day - we planned to get early wickets and maybe restrict them, maybe chase something in the late 300s," Hampshire head coach Craig White told BBC Radio Solent yesterday.

"But we didn't quite get it right. We're well up against it now.

"Take nothing away from their guys. Ollie Pope batted beautifully. He looks a very good player. All credit to him for the way he played."

    HeadingleyImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire are two wickets away from victory over Nottinghamshire thanks to some excellent lower-order batting and penetrative bowling.

Ben Coad took 4-55 last night to put Yorkshire on the brink, but not-out batsmen Tom Moores hopes Notts can hold out this morning.

"We've had periods of the game where we could have swung it our way," Moores said. "But credit to them, they played well at the back end of their innings.

"The batting, we got a few good balls. Hopefully we can dig in and do the best we can tomorrow."
