What was England's preparation? A game against Ireland and then you're in to a five match, back-to-back series. In my time, you'd have a run of first-class games in between. Rory Burns has had that opportunity because he played some first-class cricket during the World Cup.

I have sympathy for the likes of Jos Buttler - we're asking them to completely change their rhythm and mindset, to a degree, to come to Test cricket. It's hard to switch it on and off after that period of prolonged one-day cricket.

There is a certain amount of walking on eggshells because the relationship is so important - you don't want to lose the player. A lot of our job as a batting coach is to try and take the pressure off. I let them settle after a dismissal - Tuffers knows that, through my experience, I liked a little bit of time to settle after I was out! Often a player would drift over my way at some point.

When I played a little bit of one-day cricket, I didn't necessarily change the way I bowled from red-ball cricket. I took that style of bowling into the one-day game. It's difficult to completely swap your mindset: to do one style on a Tuesday and then another on a Wednesday.

Primarily, a batting coach is there to build a trusting relationship with the player, where you can have open and honest conversations. You want to talk about the challenges the opposition would present and we would do specific stuff from a certain angle, for example, to replicate that. The training, I think, should have a variety to it.

There's going to be an inspection at 11:40 BST. Hopefully we'll start some time soon after that but there was a fair bit of rain this morning that'll need clearing up.
