    Oh, a wicket!

Marnus Labuschagne has holed out at mid-wicket, caught low by a diving Joe Root after the ball ricocheted off Jos Buttler's left leg at short leg, but we're going to check it.

  2. Aus 132-3published at 35.5 overs

Marnus Labuschagne unfurls a nice-looking reverse sweep to add another couple to his total.

We've only had four wickets all day and the bat has dominated apart from that little spell when Archer was running in.

Labuschagne has looked Australia's best technical player, leaving outside off stump, forward defensive, backward defensive.

  5. Aus 128-3published at 35.1 overs

    Shot!

Oh, Marnus Labuschagne. What an innings. He darts down the pitch and hits Jack Leach through cover for a lovely four.

Tara Kelly: Why are people comparing this to the last day at Edgbaston? Granted England collapsed but they had to bat all day! Australia have had to bat for about 3 hours. It was always going to end in a draw. England fans are brutal.

Archer is dispelling the aura a bit here, he is tired.

  8. Aus 124-3published at 35 overs

    Min 13 overs left

Jofra unveils a slower ball first up and it's patted back at him by Marnus Labuschagne.

Oh, he cuts Labuschagne in half with a beauty that just jags over off stump but this doesn't feel like a good idea. Archer is a touch stiff and he's coming in to this Test on the back of an excruciating side injury. You get the sense that he's so important to this series now that any injury would be catastrophic.

    Well then.

Jofra Archer is coming back on, with 14 overs left in the match, and the third Test lurking in three days time. Hmm.

Did Smith and Labuschagne get schooled at the same cricket school? Can't wait for the last 3 Tests when we have to get the pair of em out! Zero chance.

Labuschagne should come in for Bancroft at Headingley, Khawaja to open.

Australia's new number four produces the sort of innings we have come to expect from their previous number four.

50 for Labuschagnepublished at 33.2 overs

A leisurely single takes Marnus Labuschagne to an excellent half-century.

Given that he wasn't actually playing in this match when it began, and he took that awful hit from Jofra Archer, this has been a fine innings.

  17. Aus 122-3published at 33.1 overs

Whoops. That's a full toss from Jack Leach and Marnus Labuschagne absolutely wallops it for four.

That takes him to 49 not out...

So far Labuschagne really has been a like-for-like replacement for Steve Smith. England just can't dismiss Australia's number four.

Totally agree with Tom. If this was England batting now then we'd be collapsing like a deck of cards under the pressure and looking at an Aussie win.
