I think Nicholas Pooran is one of the players to watch. If you see the replay of this and don't think of Brian Lara... that was a gorgeous shot.

    That was a thanks-for-coming shot.

    Target 106

An absolute peach of a shot from Nicholas Pooran, a proper cricket shot, square drive to the fence with a flourish!

Nothing sloggish about that, just belted to the boundary.

This is going to finish so early I'll be able to take my son to have his net. He bowls leg-spin and seamers, depending on what he decides when he gets to the crease. He learned not by being coached but by watching Uncle Jimmy bowl on the telly. Thankfully, he's not as miserable as Jimmy most of the time.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Gaylepublished at 10.2 overs

    Gayle 50, Pooran 6

How much longer will this one last? Chris Gayle ducks a bouncer from Mohammad Amir, who has looked lively in his spell so far.

Gayle just about picks up a single for his half century, he can barely move! But that's a 50 from 33 balls.

    Fetch that! Classic Chris Gayle.

Nicholas Pooran is half the height, width and size of Chris Gayle, but he can whack it as well.

If both Chris Gayle and Andre Russell are struggling, then that's a massive shame for West Indies and for this tournament.

  9. ouch!

    WI 71-2published at 10 overs

    Target 106

Chris Gayle can hardly walk now as he hobbles a single after being hit on the toe. His back is a worry. But he doesn't want the physio on.

He will only be scoring in boundaries at this rate. Not an issue.

Chris Gayle's hurt his back. He looks like my dad after doing a bit of gardening in the potting shed.

Chris Gayle has decided that it's time to get this done.

  12. 6 runs

    WI 70-2published at 9.3 overs

    Gayle 49, Pooran 6

There we go! Wahab bowled a maiden last time out but Chris Gayle has seen enough, slapping another straight six back towards the press box. No footwork.

He then moves to the leg side and spanks a four square of the wicket. Such a powerful man! He has tweaked his back doing that.

    And another! Another four.

West Indies played an old-fashioned game in some ways. They went for a simple method of bumper warfare. They may just take this World Cup by story because people just aren't used to it any more.

Hafeez put in a bit of an old man's slide to try and stop that shot. It just releases a bit of pressure because Pakistan had strung a few dots together nicely.

  16. WI 56-2published at 9 overs

    Gayle 35, Pooran 6

Shot! Nicholas Pooran gets on top of a wide and short ball and pulls it from outside off past mid on. A sort of tennis shot. Four.

Pooran then edges Amir past where third slip would have been.

  17. WI 50-2published at 8.3 overs

    Target 106

Mohammad Amir continues from the other end as Chris Gayle brings up the 50 with a well-judged single. We haven't tuned in for a well-judged single, Chris.

    Find that fence!

Wahab Riaz has been known to have a few fiery spells. Do you remember the one against Shane Watson in Adelaide? He really gave him a work over.
