  1. NZ 171-3published at 31.3 overs

    Target 173

Tom Latham gets a high full toss first up and rather shovels it away before Kane Williamson gets another single. The end is nigh.

If you can win the game in one shot, you have to have a swing at it. That should be the rules.

  3. NZ 168-3published at 31 overs

    5 needed

Some Afghan fans are still having a good day, in full voice as the TV cameras pick them out. Kane Williamson nudges another single, six singles from the over. Professional as you like.

  4. NZ 165-3published at 30.3 overs

    Target 173

Aftab Alam strays down the leg side and is frustrated with himself. Nudged away. Tom Lathham is on to a short one quickly but doesn't get hold of it and that's only a one as well.

  5. NZ 162-3published at 30 overs

    11 needed

New Zealand need 12 to win. Two sixes for the style points?

Nah, a single it is from Kane down to third man.

That's lovely timing and placement. Kane Williamson is starting to come into his own now.

This is why Kane Williamson is one of the best in the world. He's battled with himself for most of the innings but he's starting to get going now.

  8. NZ 161-3published at 29.3 overs

    12 needed

Kane Williamson wants to be back in time for Casualty, he's suddenly stepped on the gas as he whips away another boundary.

    That was a wonderful shot.

  10. NZ 155-3published at 29 overs

    Target 173

The first boundary in a while, Kane Williamson on to a short ball quickly and slaps it away to the fence. And another!

An even worse ball given the treatment through the covers. The win in touching distance now. Two good overs will do it.

Patrick: Tom Latham may be doing a 'Prince Charles' before he becomes NZ captain. Kane Williamson's only 28 and has a good 6-7 years at the helm ahead of him

  12. NZ 146-3published at 28.3 overs

    Target 173

Gulbadin is too short and too slow and Kane Williamson pulls him away - only one though as a fielder sweeps it up on the fence.

Tom Latham would have been OUT had Afghanistan been able to use a review...

  13. NZ 143-3published at 20:02 British Summer Time 8 June 2019

New Zealand need 30 runs to win from 22.1 overs with seven wickets remaining (Required run rate: 1.4).

    I think they'll do it.

  14. NZ 143-3published at 28 overs

Good shout! Aftab Alam rattles Tom Latham on the pads with a good-looking ball, may have pitched outside leg.

Latham is reprieved whatever as Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib burned their only review early on. Poorly.

  15. NZ 142-3published at 27.3 overs

Great sport relies on jeopardy and there's not much to be seen in Taunton at the moment. The commentators are discussing Marmite v Vegemite.

  16. NZ 141-3published at 27 overs

    NZ need 32 to win

Williamson helps himself to a couple. Sleepwalking to a win.

  17. NZ 137-3published at 26.3 overs

    Williamson 54, Latham 4

Captain and captain elect out there? Kane Williamson just leans on to a full ball and times it nicely away for a two.

There's been little fireworks in this run chase, just steady, sensible batting.

  18. NZ 134-3published at 26 overs

NZ require 39 more to win

Tom Latham on-drives a full toss away for four. Made it look easy.

Ex-New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special

Personally I would rather see Tom Latham come in at number six for New Zealand. He's an intelligent player so he'd be good with the tail and getting the best out of them. He's a captain in waiting for when Kane Williamson calls it a day.

New Zealand keeper Tom Latham comes out with his side needing 43 runs to win.
