    A bit of housekeeping.

Victory takes New Zealand back to the top of the table.

Defeat practically eliminates West Indies from semi-final contention.

It feels like that all barely matters right now.

It certainly is painful. When you look at the way West Indies played, they'll be thinking about what could have been. They were ahead of the rate, but kept losing wickets. Some people, myself included, thought it was all over, but Carlos Brathwaite had other ideas.

What a game of cricket that was. To hear Kane Williamson talk so calmly... that's why he's an international captain and I'm not. But I'll probably lose sleep myself thinking about Carlos Brathwaite almost getting them over the line.

Kane Williamson was back to his trademark composed self in that interview.

He was as animated as I've ever seen him when Trent Boult clung on at the end.

A stunning image as New Zealand streamed towards each other in jubilation and Carlos Brathwaite slumped to the floor.

  6. Man of the matchpublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 22 June 2019

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who made 148: "The West Indies side is incredibly dangerous, even down their order. They got the ball swinging which made it difficult for us, so it was about trying to build a partnership. So credit to them, but credit to our side for getting a competitive total. It's a great game of cricket, good to be on the winning side. It's been a great learning curve for us.

"For me, it's about playing my role as best I can and adjusting my game to the surface and the situation. If you can make good decisions, that's the focus."

That was a real test of not swearing in a live text.

    I'm out of breath.

Jamie Phillips: Flipping 'eck. What an end to a brilliant game. Superb knock by Carlos Brathwaite. So unlucky but the Black Caps roll on...

Chris Lincoln: How unlucky! Carlos Brathwaite, what an innings. Shame very few of your teammates can be bothered.

Duke and Kookaburra: Two brilliant games today. Two close finishes. Not a fingernail left in four different changing rooms. Cricket is awesome.

Kane Williamson is named player of the match for his superb century.

I really think they should've given it to Carlos.

I mean, Carlos Brathwaite was like 10 centimetres short of winning that game!

    WHAT?!

    Cricket you beautiful thing.

Your heart just goes out to Carlos Brathwaite.

He had no right to even get the West Indies that close.

An innings of tremendous courage and supreme hitting.

New Zealand have some work to do - a win's a win and they're virtually in the semi-finals, but they've been let off the hook today.

An outstanding performance, but New Zealand held their nerve.

NEW ZEALAND WIN BY FIVE RUNSpublished at 49 overs

Brathwaite c Boult b Neesham 101 (WI 286 all out)

Cricket is the best yet cruelest sport.

It's in the slot and Carlos Brathwaite elects to settle it right here, right now.

An almighty heave and the ball sails high out towards long on.

Will it be six? Will it be caught?

Caught. Trent Boult shows those safe hands and pouches it, stumbling back slightly but staying just within the rope.

The finest of fine margins. New Zealand pull it out of the fire.

Brathwaite drops to the ground in tears. Well played that man.

  16. WI 286-9published at 48.5 overs

    Need six from seven balls

Dug in short and wide and Carlos Brathwaite pulls out of the shot.

He needs a single to keep the strike.

He's played exceptionally well, to put West Indies on the brink of victory. They're one boundary away.

100 for Brathwaitepublished at 48.4 overs

    Need six from eight balls

Carlos Brathwaite whacks it out to deep mid-wicket. A certain single, could they get two?

Yes! Brathwaite gets back on strike!

And just as importantly he brings up an amazing century.

What a knock. What a man.

  19. WI 284-9published at 48.3 overs

    Need eight from nine balls

    Another big heave.

    Another miss.

Three dot balls in a row.
