  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.1 overs

    Warner c Latham b Ferguson 16 (Aus 38-1)

    Gone! Got him!

Lockie Ferguson replaces De Grandhomme, and with his first delivery he gets some lift from the pitch. The ball climbs on Warner, scrapes his gloves and the prolific opener is out!

  2. Watch: Finch goes, Khawaja escapespublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

Here's how Trent Boult trapped Aussie skipper Aaron Finch in the fifth over...

... and he could have had Usman Khawaja too just two balls later...

  3. Aus 38-1published at 9 overs

Usman Khawaja has been quiet so far, but that's a lovely flick off his legs for four behind square leg off Trent Boult.

De Grandhomme has not got the pace you'd expect from an opening bowler. If anything he is on the lower side of medium pace but he does get some movement.

That was a floaty half-volley from De Grandhomme.

  6. Aus 30-1published at 8 overs

Colin de Grandhomme pitches it up time and again, but David Warner drives one back past the non-striker for another boundary. The irked bowler then gets a bit of something extra into another delivery and raps Warner on the fingers.

Meanwhile, take a look at David Warner hitting the day's first four.

  7. (Nearly) No jacket requiredpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

It's one of those special days today at Lord's with the temperature being as high as it is.

MCC members are permitted to remove their jackets or blazers while seated in the famous Pavilion.

But importantly, the temperature is still not quite high enough to prevent them from arriving at the ground in the usual Pavilion dress code, ie jacket and tie.

There was one incident in July last summer for a T20 Blast fixture between Middlesex and Hampshire as a high of 38C led to unprecedented scenes where members were allowed to arrive jacketless!

What a time to be alive....

  8. Aus 25-1published at 7 overs

Boult gets the ball to rear up outside off stump and Warner pulls out of a cut - but still deflects the ball just over the fielder at point.

But then another short one doesn't get up so much and the opener has the time to swivel and pull it to the mid-wicket boundary.

Warner clips De Grandhomme off his pads and again the ball races down the slope, but Lockie Ferguson slides in to restrict Warner just to two.

  11. Aus 16-1published at 5 overs

Quite a start - two drops and a wicket. Guptill bashed the ground in frustration after that Khawaja chance.

Guptill is a good catcher usually. That should have been held.

Guptill drops Khawaja on 0published at 13:52 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

Trent Boult gets some swing and Usman Khawaja edges his second delivery low to Martin Guptill at second slip - he gets both hands to it to his right, but drops his second chance of the day so far!

New Zealand have the wicket they wanted. Finch had looked comfortable.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.3 overs

    Finch lbw b Boult 8 (Aus 15-1)

The Australia captain gets a little squared up and is trapped in front. It would have hit near the top of off, and he knows it - no review and Finch trudges off.

    Great start for New Zealand.

Gorgeous from Aaron Finch as he drives the ball low past Trent Boult's right hand for a four.

De Grandhomme's dibbly-dobblies (a technical term) remind me of Gavin Larsen a bit, while Jeremy Coney on TMS has referenced Chris Harris.

If you can recall any other military-medium type bowlers, drop us a line.

That is the first time since July 2012 that Australia had no runs after two overs. That was against England at Chester-le-Street. Last time they were 0-0 after two overs against New Zealand was in 2007 but on that day they went on to score 343-5.

Plenty of entertainment around the ground to make both the New Zealand and Australia fans feel at home.

To my untrained eye, I reckon there's a 50/50 split of Aussies and Kiwis inside the ground plus a fair chunk of MCC members occupying the Pavilion and the stands around for this one.

This group of Maori dancers have clearly got their thinking caps on finding some shade by the Harris Garden to do their performance earlier.

  20. Aus 8-0published at 3 overs

And we have our first boundary off the final delivery of the over as Warner clips it off his pads to the mid-wicket boundary.
