WHAT IS GOING ON!!! I've spilt three caramel macchiatos now! And I don't care - but the fellow customers in this coffee shop are worried, they can only see a madman with headphones in jumping up and shouting in celebration at something and throwing coffee around. Sorry folks.

  3. Aus 24-3published at 9 overs

The score predictor has Australia reaching 255 - which seems generous!

Australia just need to see off these opening bowlers first and foremost, as Carey is inches away from nicking a beauty from Chris Woakes. Some superb fast bowling this morning.

But Carey responds well, a glorious cover drive for four more.

Exactly one year ago Kieran Trippier fired in a 5th min free kick in a World Cup semi final, and we know how that ended... Keep calm lads and come on England!

Steve Smith has two from 19 balls. The second number is more important than the score at the moment. Australia need him to stay put.

Steve Smith will be the key. Can he be the glue to get Australia to a score?

Alex Carey has been plastered up, looks like he's had a shaving accident now.

In defence of Peter Handscomb, Richie [11:06], that was a hospital pass of a shout to come into a World Cup.

    Peter Bonetti-esque.

What a start. England have been outstanding. Carey is lucky he did catch his helmet because it would have gone back onto the stumps.

    It was vicious.

That bouncer was brilliatly directed. Right at the batsman, who is going to be OK I think.

As well as you can be when you're hit in the mouth by a 92mph cricket ball.

If he hadn't caught his helmet - great reactions - he may have been out!

Richie Macca: I am not sure specifically what it takes to be a world-class batsman, but whatever it is, I know that Peter Handscomb doesn't have it.

  13. ouch!

    Aus 19-3published at 8 overs

Steve Smith goes for a single that I wouldn't want to file a risk assessment for, he would have been well out but Eoin Morgan's throw from point is a bad one, way over the top. Saw the headlines.

Jofra Archer then knocks Alex Carey's helmet off with a vicious bouncer! Carey catches his helmet in his hands but he is bleeding from his jaw.

The Edgbaston magic spell working for England and their supporters once again. The ground came alive with Warner’s driven four off the very first ball and has been kicking and screaming ever since.

Alex Carey has batted seven throughout this tournament and has scored more runs than anyone batting six or lower.

  17. Aus 18-3published at 7.3 overs

    Niche.

Jofra Archer skims one past Alex Carey, who looks very confident as he lets that one go by. The Aussie keeper has batted at seven as a rule but has been in great nick, ruining Archer's figures with a well timed push for three down the ground.
