Is there anyone you'd rather have coming out now than Joe Root?
He needs a century to become the World Cup leading run-scorer.
Just saying.

Thoroughly deserved by New Zealand, they have got the ball swinging and seaming. It was brave from Matt Henry to keep it pitched up.
There's a long way to go...
Roy c Latham b Henry 17 (Eng 28-1)
Gone this time. Jason Roy is not going to be England's hero today.
It's another really good delivery from Matt Henry. It's full and swinging. The ball finds the edge and wicketkeeper Latham does the rest.
New Zealand deserve that for their start but that doesn't make England fans feel any better.
Oh yes, Jason Roy. He takes a stride down the pitch to Henry and crunches his away again. The party tunes boom out at Lord's. Four more closer.
Need 218 more runs to win
The required run-rate started off at 4.84 and it's still there. England are on target but crucially they have not lost an early wicket.
And again! England's openers are taking the Kiwis on. In truth this is a poor full toss from Boult. It's punished by Bairstow.
Four to Jonny Bairstow! This is a really good shot through the covers. Save your legs. The crowd are tense and nervous but they take full advantage of the chance to cheer this to the rope.

England are very fortunate to not be one down. Everyone up here thought that was out.
Jonny Bairstow has done a good job of getting to the non-striker's end for most of this but now he is hit on the pad by Boult.
New Zealand could have had three or four wickets already.

Marc Gridley: Bad time to get another coffee. My heart is playing more beats per minute than a Dave Grohl drum solo as it is with these Boult and Henry banana balls.
Need 226 runs to win
Hello! That's the Jason Roy we have been used to. He's still going to try and put the pressure on the Kiwis. He charges Henry, has a thump but gets more height than distance.
The ball plugs out at deep mid-wicket and England run two.

Roy 11, Bairstow 1
Those 230 runs to win are looking a long way off right now. Jason Roy fiddles tentatively outside off to Henry and is beaten.
This was close. Very close. The bit of fortune England need?
England need 230 more runs to win
Jason Roy hits back. Somehow he manages to put that last delivery out of his mind and he advances to Boult, flicking him through the off side for four.
This is gripping.

What a ball that is!
Jason Roy was done for pace, length, and swing. He's nutmeggd him with a yorker. Trent Boult is on fire.
This is bowling of the highest quality. Boult now beats Roy all ends up. The England opener ends up being nutmegged by another full, swinging delivery.

Emmy: Trent Boult is a terrifying bowler.
Si Lomas: Has Trent Boult bowled his allocation yet?
Two and a half overs in and England have had the fortune so far. Bairstow goes for a drive, inside edges onto his boot and the ball trickles just past his stumps, missing by a fraction.
You and me both, Jim.
